Elfen Lied 9
Updated 9/22 4:56PM: Corrected spelling to "diclonius", meaning "double sprout". I should really take some time to do a bit of research, shouldn't I? ;)

Continuing with Lucy's past this time... she and Kouta meet and quickly become friends. It's the first time in her life that she's had someone like Kouta to be with, and kinda doubts for a while whether or not he'll keeping coming to play with her... But, the day comes when Kouta has to go. That last day together they do all kinds of things: go to the zoo, play in the river.. And Lucy blushes a LOT. Very kawaii~ :) Kouta says that he's going to a festival the next day.. but with a cousin. And if that cousin is a girl.. Lucy's not very happy thinking about that...
And those voices she hears come... You don't have a place in this world. You should destroy everything, you have to kill them or else you'll be killed.. Just kill Kouta now so you won't have to go through the pain of seeing him with another girl.. And when she comes back to reality she's choking Kouta, but stops when she realizes what she's doing. After the bus ride, she asks Kouta if he's going to be going to the festival with another girl.. And he lies, and says no. So Lucy says she'll send him off at the train station after the festival and goes on.
At the festival, Lucy searches for Kouta, hoping that he's not with another girl. And then she sees Kouta with Yuka.. Uh-oh.. and those voices come back again, saying the same things as before. And this time she does it.. There go 4 peoples' heads.. A girl there, Kouta's sister Kanae, saw what happened and tells Kouta that in front of the train station as we see a very pissed off Lucy look on...
And that's it for the flashback. Lucy wakes up and goes outside where Nana and Mayu were talking.
And I thought we were going to finally get to that part this time.. Perhaps next time. Anyways, Orochi brought up a good question in the comments on episode 8: "Does Lucy deserve our pity?". In some ways she does... what those kids did to her dog last time, her being made fun of all the time.. all those awful things she had to go through. But in some ways she doesn't.. she kills people without reservation when they're in her way. But is that killing instinct something that she can control or not? Is it written into the DNA of all the Diclonius out there as something they have to do to preserve their race (as something like that voice that Lucy heard this episode)? But they're evolved humans so they should be able to control that instinct, right? It's the old "Does DNA control destiny or are we as humans not bound to that destiny?" thing. But all these questions are something to answer after we get through the show, aren't they? :)

The anticipation of getting to "that" part is killing me, since I have no clue as to what "that" part is! I'm so hoping that the next episode will cover it...please... :)
Well, her "evil" half had a compelling case to make for a weakened and deserted Lucy. Yes, she's been doing some horrible slaughters, but watch her reaction at the zoo closely, when she suddenly realized "What the hell is wrong with me? What am I doing??" I think it's clearly obvious that this instinct of her is not easily suppressed. And schizophrenia is a sickness in my book - however, Lucy is a particularly dangerous patient.
I'm rooting for the "human" Lucy to take on and eventually win the fight against her evil side ;) ... and yeah, until then, I do pity her.
even if they're evolved, seems like they're not at their final yet, so, perhaps they're still really unable to control their homicidal drive yet. and why did they evolve to have those Vector anyway ? seems like it won't do them better than fighting so far
although can imagine them using it for washing dishes and cook and chop some vegetables simultaneously ^^;
those kind of story about childhood psychology -_-
Lucy needs a good knock to her head and a tramatic experience to "wake" up.
For those who have read Vol.7 of the manga, you'll get what I mean with the case of Mariko.
And some manga teaser below from vol.42 of this year's Young Jump (Elfen Lied Chapter 83).Spoliers included below,of course.

Looks like the manga will be ending soon.....
Yeah, I just took a quick look through those volumes of the manga again. What she did to Mariko was pretty awful... And oooh, those scans make me want to read more!
Err...When I mean a "good knock to the head", I'm saying look at how Mariko went from being a maniac to a protector.
It seems that all Diclonius and Silperit needs love to prevent them from being a psycho case. Nana sure didn't go around killing people.
Okay, yeah I see what you mean :)
Hey hey, nice comments here on this show, I've put this blog as my homepage, let's see how often you update =) would be nice to keep visitting this place in case I miss some cool new anime:P
Nice blog, cheers.
Well, if this is the message of the series (give love to your little ones), I can only say I wholeheartedly agree.
I like how they motivated Lucy's conversion to the "dark side" - pretty believable. Though it would be interesting to learn where the "evil" Lucy was coming from.
More like "Accept others for what they are lest the consequences."
Kaguzawa Jr did mention in the manga that Diclonius/Silperit are prone to being schizo and having multiple personalities because of the huge amygdala in their brain.
Exmaples shown in the anime are Normal and Evil Lucy and Nyuu,Nana and Evil Nana and of course, Mariko and Myuu-Mariko.
BTW,there are a lot of interesting terms in this serie which have their roots in classical music (Elfenlied and Silperit),Paleoanthropology (Lucy and Diclonius)and neurology (amygdala) which makes for some interesting reads if you can make a connection to their context in the anime and their real meaning.
I sort of think that after seeing all the iamges and some summaries for Elfin Lied.. (not sure exactly why they call it that) I had thought that these diclonius were a sort of demon. The skeletal structure that they show looks so much like waht a demon from hell's struction would look like. At least I feel this way.. wonder if anyoen else does or not. ^^
Where are you getting the #9 scans from? I have looked all over but I cant find anything past the 8th book. Are we allowed to ask where we can download stuff here? If so I would really appreciate the help, thanks.
is there any scanlations projects on Elfen Lied that are downloadable? Most that I found have no seeders. Wish someone re-seed the past chapters until the current one. anyway, what's the current release volume/chapter in Japan?
Kounnichiwa. The commentaries about Elfen Lied are very goods. Do you can tell me where i can download the Anime or where I can buy it. If you want answer me tha mail in spanish. Well, arigatou and sayounnara.

Lucy only killed those who got in her way or had something to do with her past. I have seen the whole series and Lucys character really comes out more and you understand her and where she's coming from. Everyone she killed so far I think deserved to die from what they've done to her and given if I was in the same position I most likely would do the same. When she killed for places to go she felt she had nowhere else, noone would take in a strange little girl with horns, and she didnt want to go back to the home where she was before. Conflicting emotions effect her greatly and you'll see that more as time goes on in later episodes.
I was watching one of the episodes and I have to Q , b/c this really confused me. the episode in the part where the boys killed her dog with a vas was that LUCY? Or Nana and that girl that told those boys where the dogs were at was she really her friend or just tricked her???? plz someone help me confused!
