AIR 8

Okay, I just watched the sub to check my comprehension, and I understood most things but I lacked some vocabulary (as is usually the case) to understand some details. It would help if I'd keep a list of words I have to look up, wouldn't it? ;) Quickly summarizing what went on this time...
Kanna's been moved from place to place, never staying long enough to really feel like she belongs anywhere, always alone. Seemed like those around the palace where she was kept even felt scared of her, a 翼人, supposedly a messenger of the gods with awesome powers. She has no idea what a family is like since she's never had one...
But now, with Ryuuya and Uraha she has an idea of what a family is supposed to be like. The order comes to move her again, but before that happens Ryuuya and Uraha are going to take her away so they can stay together, and so they can find her mother who's being kept in a sacred mountain far away... and also so they can keep teasing Kanna since she's an easy target ;) See Kanna's attempt at juggling beanbags... she's more suited for baseball with that kinda arm, ain't she?
As they approach the mountain Ryuuya has to fight some monks there protecting it, and in the process gets injured since he follows Kanna's orders to not kill anyone. When he wakes up Kanna tells him to not die on her.. and they go to see Kanna's mother. Kanna unfurls her wings and smiles as now she knows it is her mother... but her mother tells Ryuuya to take Kanna and leave...
I'm liking Kanna... a lot :) There was more of a light atmosphere for a bit than earlier episodes, with everybody generally having a good time. But it didn't stay that way after Kanna found her mother...
Satoshi has already pointed this out (btw, good job. I'm pretty sure very few people in my 3rd year Japanese class at school would be able to get that much), but there seems to be a connection between the characters in this period and Yukito and the rest 1000 years later, so just restating it here:
Ryuuya = Yukito - See the scar on Yukito's back
Kanna = Misuzu - We've heard the talk about dreams before and such
Uraha = Yukito's mother - Trying to help save the winged girl
But after all that cheerful time spent with Ryuuya and Uraha, it seems Kanna's going to once again be left all alone, judging from the next ep preview...
And just as an extra, some vocabulary for those interested ;)
御主 (onushi) = "you"
余/予 (yo) = "I", used by Kanna
Verb-て+おる = Verb-て+いる. Verb-て+おる sounds impolite when speaking of others in the standard (Tokyo) dialect, but it is still used in the Kansai (Osaka) dialect
Verb「ア」+ぬ = Verb「ア」+ない
故 (yue) = because

So, even you have problems understanding everything.....
Well, can't balme ya. The first time I've played the game and reach this Chapter, all I see are kanjis. That's not so bad considering that I'm chinese, probs are trying to find out the truth meaning behind those kanjis (Their meaning might differs from their chinese counterparts.) while making heads and tails of each of the sentence. Makes me wonder how you'll done in the game.
PS :- Kanna is cute. And She's only a handful of anime charas that use "Yo" to describe herself.
I'm pretty confident that I understood most of what I heard, but I like to check myself from time to time to make sure I was actually right, hehe ;)
I noticed Kanna was using "yo". Hadn't heard it before, but I figured it was "I" ;)
Yeah, I figured that too. I'm guessing it's this one: 予 ?
Big Kanna fan here.
Ah, sorry for the double post, but a little more on pronouns.
Kanna uses both 其方/そなた (sonata) and 御主
(onushi) to refer to Ryuya (as 'you'). Is there a significant difference between them?
Yeah, that's right :)
See here... says そなた is a bit honorific.. and お主 is a bit more familiar, used for those at or near the same level as you.
Well, since ever AIR-head had more or less already watched this ep. Time for me to elaborate on what they left out from the game.
Kanna is the last of her kind. In AIR-verse, Yokujin is supposed to be a race of demigods and their powers is used by the ancient Japanese in time of wars.
By the time we see Kanna here, the Yokujin had more or less become extinct and currently there are 2 clans of people, one who is loyal to that race and the other fearful of them.Since Kanna is the last of her kind, the clan who are loyal to her moves her around to avoid her being killed and they imprison her mother in that mountain.
But even in the loyal clan, there are people who are scared of Kanna because she is kinda of a spoilt brat who is stubborn and very demanding of what she wants, but she isn't that bad as what we have seen.Even so, the impression stuck with some of the people, enough to turn themselves traitor......
About Uraha, she is a soceress who is well verse in her art.The game had her showing off her skills and her speciality is teleportation, but we never get to witness any of that in the anime, sad.
Not really realated to this episode, but just to let you know AnimeTen is selling Potato plushies. :D

I thought I'd mentioned this in my own post, but I guess not: Uraha's powers seem to directly correspond to Yukito's mother's. Using the hand outstretched, etc.
Also the beanbag juggling tradition could easily morph into a puppet show tradition after 1000 years.. (Kanna sucks at it but Uraha's really good).
on a totally random note, I found it funny that all 3 seiyuus for the goddesses in AMG are also in AIR. Kikuko Inoue as Uraha was a nice suprise :)
