Negima 8

I'll write up a summary later, but for now first reaction as we wrapped up the Evangeline arc this time. I'm not liking that they skipped chapter 22 where Evangeline was sick :P And for some reason something felt not quite right about this time in general as I was watching, though I can't put my finger on it exactly, whether it was animation or pacing or that story being left out (since I do like Evangeline) or whatever. More later ;)
Okay, I'll just forego a summary this time to comment some more. I'm in agreement with everybody that commented this time. The chapter they left out was important in developing Evangeline's character -- she's not exactly as bad as you think she is and all, getting sick and having Negi tend to her. And in the anime we have continuity issues because Negi didn't see Evangeline's dream about his father as was pointed out. Animation wasn't as good as it should have been for a story like this with many action scenes. Static pans don't cut it...
It is rather disappointing to see such a good original manga get this kind of treatment in the transition to anime. Hopefully the Fafner crew will be able to bring the level of quality (at least in animation) Negima deserves with episode 10. I will try to be optimistic :)

Yup. Just watched it myself and I agree - something *does* seem to be missing. Note a slight continuity problem - in the manga, Negi saw Evangeline's dream. In the anime, he didn't, so he's still not totally up on what happened between Evangeline and his fater (or, for that matter, what his father is actually like). On that note, Negi's father kinda reminds me of Shirai/Haitani from Love Hina (Keitaro's friends).
Just keep in mind - only one more episode done this way 'till sweet, sweet animation begins (hopefully).
i've felt that the anime was lacking something since the start.mostly art, but also character development ,pacing and plot. i have to say, the evangeline arc was done w/o screwing it up, but it feels too rushed .next episode seems to see some anime only fillers, but well, as satoshi says, only 1 more episode to good art(i hope).
It makes absolutely no sense to me why hot proporty like Negima gets shafted in budget and production while we have obscure shoujo series, despite low budget retains a level of quality that does not impeded the enjoyment of the show. The low production value of the animation is getting harder and harder to bear. For an episode that's suppose to be action-heavy, we have a historical-setting, astoundingly low amount of frames used. Static object, panning, side-scrolling, scaling, smokes/lame light effect.... etc, the production team seem to be pulling ALL the cheap animation tricks there are to avoid *GASP* actually animating objects. Worse, most of the frames are lifted directly from the manga with ugly color. I have seen shockwave or flash clip with better animation than this.
Ahh crap, that's an important chapter, it shows that Evangeline's really not the mean, all-powerful person she wishes she was (she gets hay fever, how funny ^_^), AND it sets off the more serious plot with Negi finding out about his father's past when he spies on Evangeline's dream, something that's looking to be incredibly important. Hell, it's so important that it's the reason the school field trip will be to Kyoto!
I'm sure glad it's changing, it seems to be getting progressively worse over the first 9 episodes. >_<
BTW, I haven't got the raw yet, but that screencap of Makie in the maid's uniform, is that the scene where she was nude in the manga?
I know part of what's off, Evangeline looks weird in that outfit, wasn't she in her undergarments for this section of the manga? Oh, and it's the introduction of Chachamaru Zero, the most evil puppet ever (and totally hilarious when she shows back up. ^_^)
I agree with you Maestro4k.Chachazero IS really evil.I think she likes violence act.(Which you'll know when Negi is talking about his past.)The dream-peeking part maybe mention later in the anime.I don't thick they'll skip it because it is a quite important part.(*hint *hint)
Eva was supposed to be naked when Negi saves her in the manga.(Because Negi's spell blew her clothe out)
They LEFT OUT one of the very best chapters of the manga? Are they out of their minds???
Evangeline's dream chapter is KEY to developing not only her character, but also giving Negima more insight about his father. And we shouldn't forget to mention that it's actually drop-dead funny. What the HELL were they thinking?
I don't know about you, but I'm decidedly unhappy with what they did with the excellent manga source so far. This only confirms that they're on the wrong track.
About Chachamaru Zero: She's so evil she's funny, one of my favorite things is later on, and she comments "That was fun, especially the decapitation part!" Everyone else is crying at what they saw. ^_^ I also like the scene where she's complaining that she can't see from where she is and Evangeline tells her she's "pretty noisy for someone who's completely useless." Chachamaru Zero just tells Eva it's Eva's fault. ^_-
Mentar: Yeah it was one of the funniest parts of the manga. The scene where Negi has to change her Pajamas because she's sweated so much about made me die laughing "I'm not looking, I'm not looking..." ^_^
I'm also highly curious as to why such a very popular manga would get this kind of treatment. Surely there musth ave been enough funding? Or were they really stupid and had to spend SO much on the voice actors? Whoever decided that really has to be stupid, because there's no point getting a huge cast of good voice actors when the animation suffers THIS much.
I'm pretty sure some people will be out for the producers' and planners' blood if the quality doesn't improve from ep 10 onwards.
