Negima 22

The class is back from their trip to Kyoto this time. Negi learns magic from Eva -- make that Eva-sama ;) -- Konoka and Setsuna try to get along like old times, and Nodoka's still thinking about Negi, but our main focus is on Asuna this time. She's gotten sick, and is really overworking herself hard to make up for the time while she was on the school trip to Kyoto, and also to pay the costs of the trip. She gets worse and worse... seeing her beloved Takamichi being friendly with Shizuna-sensei certainly doesn't help things out. Though she pretends nothing's going on, it's pretty clear that not all is right...

I supppose one of the good things about breaking from the setting of the manga is that they can go in an original-ish direction to end things. The original stuff comes off much better to me than their adaptation of the manga in most cases (改悪 is the word that comes to mind when thinking of the treatment of some of the manga material). With only 4 episodes to go that would seem to be the route we're taking by concentrating on Asuna this time... Perhaps we'll learn why she has that 無効化 ability among other things. It could make these last few episodes at least somewhat interesting to watch -- so long as they keep it mostly original ;)

While there wasn't much in the way of progression and not much material from the manga this episode just seemed.. very well made somehow.

I have to agree. I really felt for Asuna in this episode, the ending made me feel sorry for her. Some parts reminded me of the manga though, these Negima Anime Directors are MUCH better at making anime originals (Sayo anyone?) then following the manga. (I'm still fuming because of the Kyoto Arc....T_T)

I agree, not much happened overtly, but there was obviously a lot going on behind the scenes. Almost like a recap/recoup episode.

Definitely well-made... it was strange because the second half really had what I could only call an 'Orange Road' feel to it. I'm sure that I've overlooked somethings that were going on, such as why Asuna is getting ill. But I think the entire Takamichi-Asuna segment was extremely well-animated and thought out.

But in a way, it only frustrates me more that the series isn't living up to it's true potential.
