Fushigiboshi no Futago Hime 17
Since Princess Sophie from the Windmill Kingdom and Princess Miruro of the Water Drop Kingdom FINALLY, FINALLY, got a proper introduction this time, and also because of the 神作画, I feel obligated to cap more than usual (though not up to moyism standards). I'll say more than usual as well so y'all can get a feel for how Sophie and Miruro are. Needless to say, I had a lot of fun watching and rather enjoyed this episode. Be warned that I'm in the mood to use a lot of big red text today ;)
Camelot and Lulu send Fine and Rain off to the Seed Kingdom to participate in the next Princess Party. This time it's an athletic competition so Fine has a chance of winning... maybe :P And Fine gets so excited that, as usual, she almost crashes the balloon, but thankfully Princess Sophie@Rina Satou saves them.

Altessa's there as well, and Sophie says "Waa, pretty"... she's not talking about Altessa, she's talking about some flowers nearby. Altessa calls her an airhead (basically), saying she couldn't be best princess. Sophie says she'd like to be best princess once, wouldn't Altessa, too? So she and Altessa will do their best even though they're going to be on the losing end of things. Wow.. Sophie's something to be able to piss Altessa off that much, even though she is an airhead like Altessa says, ain't she? More of that to come later on ;)
Prince Bright arrives to calm things down a bit. Seems like Sophie didn't even think Altessa was saying anything mean to her (^^;;) Rain-chan is all crazy over Bright as usual (even though she was all crazy for Shade last week...). They leave and Milky and Leonne-chan come. Seems that the Windmill Kingdom and Jewel Kingdom are rivals in the yearly balloon race, so there's plenty of bad blood between them.
Things finally get started as the queen introduces all of the princesses and explains the rules (and the stupid king just wants to get the race on before). This time, it's pretty much like any athletic festival you've seen in other shows, with some running, a scavenger hunt, etc., etc. The princesses will be judged not only on how fast they are but also being graceful and playing fair. Bad news for Fine, good news for Rain. So let's get started!.. no.. Nagi sings first.. same reaction here as Fine and Rain had... One of the chancellor's minions from last time is spying on Fine and Rain, and Eclipse spots him. Unfortunately for Eclipse, Fine and Rain spot him and Prince Bright and Tio go after him.. Tio being useless as usual, though (^^;;)
Bright finally catches up with Eclipse in the forest and challenges him to a sword duel. Fine and Rain want to stop the fighting so they use the prominence and... Fine gets grabbed by a vine, taking Bright's attention away from Eclipse just long enough for Eclipse to make a run for it. Milky watches her brother run away...
So with that settled it's finally time to get the race started! As expected, Fine jumps out to the lead, with Miruro and Rain bringing up the rear. Sophie and Altessa have some trouble leaping up to grab the bread, with Sophie continuing to piss Altessa off, but they finally make it.

Poor Rain and Miruro just can't do it... Miruro-chan@Sachiko Sukigara doesn't know what to do. Rain runs up to her, trying to cheer her up, but Miruro's on the verge of crying. awwww, poor thing....
Next up is the scavenger hunt. Fine has to get the king's hat, which proves a bit hard. Sophie's got to get soil from the base of the mother tree, Milky has to get Bright's crown, and Altessa some fur from Tio's tail. Rain and Miruro finally jump high enough to get the bread and go on to the scavenger hunt.

The face Miruro-chan made as she finally jumped high enough to eat the bread was omega kawaii ;) Moving on... Rain has to get Nagi's harp, and Miruro has to get the left shoes of 20 people from the Seed Kingdom... where did they come up with that one? Everything's so unfair to poor Miruro-chan (^^;;)
Next up after the scavenger hunt is some ball throwing into baskets. Fine has some issues, but Sophie seems to be good at it. Since Altessa knows she'll lose at the rate she's going she knocks over Sophie's basket of balls. Sophie does the same to Altessa's. Altessa takes aim at Sophie but hits Leonne instead, and pretty soon it degenerates into everybody trying to hit everyone else with balls. Not a friendly game of catch like Sophie says (^^;;)
Fine and Rain try to stop everybody by transforming, but...there's no power left since they forgot to charge their Sunny Luces. Ooops... But there is something else they can use...
はねのミュウグラムの出番キター！
hane no myuuguramu no deban kita-! (It's time for the debut of the Feather Myuugram!)
Rain uses the Feather Myuugram, and just as she says, it makes Altessa and Sophie start dancing around in circles. That's some scary power there ;) After getting dizzy dancing, Miruro and Altessa have pretty much had it, but Miruro comes over and tells both of them to not give up. So the race is back on!

Miruro-chan ends up winning the contest -- I guess for her display of sportsmanship more than her athletic ability, but anyways ;) Afterwards she invites Fine and Rain to come visit her in the Water Drop Kingdom (they better go soon!). Sophie also comes over and invites them to come watch the balloon race the next week. Altessa comes up, looking rather pissed...
Altessa (to Sophie): "You really did interfere with me winning, didn't you? I'll pay you back for this at the balloon race!"
Sophie: "No, you don't have to pay me back"
Wow.. Sophie really is an airhead (^^;;)
Fine and Rain go back home and it's time for the usual level check... nothing happens. Seems forgetting to charge their Sunny Luces is the reason.. but they're more worried about why a fight broke out and why everybody can't get along. And to make their day that much worse... Camelot and Lulu come in, not too happy that Fine and Rain didn't bring back a victory, and they've brought along plenty of homework for them. Iya~~~!
So you see I really liked this episode ;) Sophie's an absolute riot. Her airheadedness along with her ability to piss Altessa off really make me like her a lot. And Miruro-chan's so cute! Her seiyuu seems to be a new person as she's not listed in the ANN database or on Hatena, and it kinda shows, but her voice is kinda cute and Miruro's so cute it's more than okay with me :) Poor thing doesn't seem to have any luck, though. And with characters like Sophie dominating the screen when they show up, Miruro'll have a hard time standing out. But I'll cheer for her! I'll be looking forward to when Fine and Rain visit her -- hopefully she'll show us a bit more of her charm then ;)
But you have to feel most sorry for Eclipse since everyone's still misunderstanding him. Must be tough for Milky to see everybody treat her brother like the bad guy. Hopefully they'll learn that he's not such soon...
Animation and art were excellent this time as I mentioned at the beginning. They really put some effort forward, probably since Sophie and Miruro were being introduced for really the first time. Great job of making all the princesses look chou-kawaii this time -- except Altessa, I could care less about that brother-con brat :P I can only hope they'll keep this up for a bit.
Next time, the balloon race between the Moon Kingdom and Windmill Kingdom. Should be fun :)

I love reading your summaries for Futago Hime, I've been following this series through your blog, pity though you are not continuing subbing it *sniff* guess I'll have to be patient and wait for the new group to release more. Can't wait to have more of this anime thanks to your wonderful summaries that makes me wanna watch them more and more!

I too enjoy reading your summaries very much. I read every week and watch the raws every week. I can only understand a handful of Japanese so your summaries help quite a bit!
I hope you will continue to sub the series you did an excellent job!

series ...great......u did a great job subbing.....hope there more subs to come....read the summmary ...can't wait to wait the episodes ^_^...wish i could fine the raw for the earlier episodes though sigh ....thank again for the summary/subs
