Kamichu! 12 (END)

First off... this isn't the end end, only the end of the TV broadcast. This episode will actually be episode 15 of 16 on the DVDs (8 of them, 2 episodes per DVD), which contain 4 extra episodes... that's one way to get people to buy 'em :P Anyways, summary and review (well, if you can call what I usually write a review) and such of Kamichu! after school.

We jump from New Year's last time all the way to almost Valentine's Day this time. Which means it's a good chance for Yurie to do the kokuhaku thing and say she likes Kenji.. Kenji, of course, has no idea that Valentine's Day is coming up (^^;;) Yurie makes some chocolate over at Matsuri's (after a bit of work) and the big day comes. On the way to school everybody says "Good luck!" and "Fight!" and "Do your best!" and such to Yurie.. And when she gets to school.. of course, Yurie forgot the chocolate she made to give to Kenji. That's our Yurie-sama! (^^;;) Matsuri and Mitsue gather help from the other girls in the class to talk about Yurie around Kenji and such while Mitsue goes to Yurie's to retrieve the chocolate. Got some good friends there, Yurie :) Meanwhile, the townspeople visit the shrine and pray that everything goes well for Yurie...

Matsuri gives Yurie some good advice -- you've gotta do it by yourself -- as Mitsue returns with the chocolate along with Tama/Binbougami, who runs it up to Yurie, getting seen by everybody else in the class. Talking cats and such are nothing too out of the ordinary though ;) Yurie goes up to the roof to speak to Kenji, who's still comtemplating what he should write with that huge brush... Kenji doesn't realize she's there at first.. Yurie hesitates a bit. Then she finally says it. Kenij FINALLY seems to realize what's been going on and goes to write -- he writes the character 恋 koi, "love" :) Yup, he likes Yurie too... and by the way, the ENTIRE SCHOOL saw ALL of that. How embarassing (^^;;)

A strong wind comes up and blows Yurie and Kenji into the sky on the paper with koi written on it. All the various gods congratulate Yurie, and InoShikaChou show up as well. Shika (the deer) says it's a miracle (^^;;) Well, so it turns out what Matsuri said earlier was true -- if you confess your love to someone on the roof of the school on a day with a strong wind it'll work out.. Yurie asks Kenji if he really meant it when he said he liked her. Yes, because she's weird -- she's got something that he doesn't so being around her is fun. The character 恋 koi turns into 変 hen strange (^^;;)

Well, I dunno if Kenji should be saying other people are weird ;) Anyways, lovely storybook happy ending for everybody this time. Yay for Yurie! Really unfortunate this is the end of the TV broadcast since I'd like to see how things go with Yurie and Kenji and such. But, as I mentioned earlier, there will be 4 extra episodes on the DVDs, including one after this episode, so we might get to see a bit. And since I'm working I could actually get said DVDs ;)

Anyways, to wrap things up for Kamichu!. No secret around here that I've really enjoyed it. Though nothing really happened in terms of a larger plot or anything, just going through everyday(?) life with Yurie and all the various emotions and situations she had to deal with being a god AND a middle school girl was plenty engaging. Not to mention...

ゆりえかわいいよゆりえ!!
Yurie kawaii yo Yurie!!

..all of Yurie's various mannerisms and such are too cute :) Also really liked Chiwa as Tama/Binbougami. Plenty of funny moments with her. Can't really say there was a character I didn't like... even Matsuri, though she mostly seemed to want to use Yurie for her own benefit, acted like a friend in the end.

If I had to pick... I'd say episode 7 and episode 10 were my favorites. Episode 11, where Yurie didn't move an inch away from the kotatsu for the entire episode, gets special mention since I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like that before.

No complaints about animation quality and such with Kamichu! (except for a few spots I've pointed out), though it didn't quite keep the extremely detailed quality of the first two episodes. Great job by Brains Base :) Good music as well. Just good job all around by all the staff. Thanks for all the hard work! The only question I have is why Kamichu! didn't run in the evenings instead of late at night.. might have gotten a bigger audience.. Anyways, I thoroughly enjoyed Kamichu! and can easily recommend it to those who like it slow paced with perhaps a bit of a Ghibli-ish feel with all the various gods and such. And plenty of cute to go around. Ka-mi-chu~!! ;)
