Fushigiboshi no Futago Hime Gyu! 8

Rein's out reporting for the school news again, this time taking a look at the princes of the Fushigiboshi are doing. Auler's in the chess club (must be pretty smart), Shade is popular as usual, and Bright is in the fencing club (who cares about him?). There's somebody else that wants to be in the fencing club -- the very little Prince Solo of the Seed Kingdom. He's been trying to get in to no avail, and now even Pyupyu and Kyukyu have some fun with him, tying up his hair in braids. The other members of the club laugh at him... Toma then tells him that those with no real talent won't get better no matter how hard they try.

Chiffon tells Fine and Rein a bit about Toma's background. He's actually a commoner, a former prince of the royal family of the Walpurgis Planet who was admitted to the school on a special scholarship. He came to the school to try and revive the royal family there. It takes a lot of talent to obtain a special scholarship. That would partially explain that attitude of his.... Chiffon, Fine, and Rein come upon Solo, who's training by himself. His training isn't exactly going all that well. Ouch (^^;;) Fine and Rein offer to help him with his training. He can't give up!.. and they do the iyaiya dance... somebody is watching from nearby.

Fine, Rein, Chiffon, and Pumo try to figure out what would be the best training for Solo.. Fine and Rein can't really fence with him. Given how clumsy those two are he'd get hurt (^^;;) They put their eyes on Pumo -- yup, Pumo would be about right. They put Pumo in a suit of armor and he and Solo have something resembling a swordfight. As Pumo charges at Solo someone grabs his tail and runs away. Fine and the others follow her through the city. The girl ends up running into Shade after making a corner -- her name's Herb, a classmate of Fine and Rein. She seems to be rather infatuated with Solo, finding him extremely cute... her seiyuu isn't listed in the credits, but I'm 99.9% sure it's Tomoko Kaneda (who also does Pyupyu) from that little act ;)

Herb's been a huge fan of Solo's ever since the first day of class. He's so cute!.... Solo would rather be called cool than cute, of course. Herb's going to help Solo with his training to get into the fencing club. That training consists of running on a treadmill (that goes too fast, of course), dodging baseballs (that come out too quickly, of course), and trampoline (he jumps too high and hits his head on a tree branch, of course). Solo wants to be by himself after all of that...

Shade is in the garden with Creyson as the sun sets. Shade says that he wants to become a doctor, so he's been doing research on herbs and the like. Makes sense for him, I guess ;) Solo gets some good advice from Shade -- he has to try his best and fight as if he's going to lose, just like the plants in the garden. Creyson adds that the plants do their best on their own to grow, not comparing themselves with others to see which is bigger. Solo was so busy comparing himself with others that he forgot about himself. He's going to try his best now.

Solo goes to the fencing club to take the entrance test once again. He hesitates at first, but then goes on the counterattack.. Toma watches from nearby -- there's no need f(ry. Fine and Rein transform and go to work getting rid of the monsters. Herb throws herself in front of Solo to protect him, but instead of staying there in fright he jumps over Herb and strikes the monster with his sword.

With that taken care of the test is over.. Solo protected Herb, so he's more than worthy of being in the fencing club. Solo thanks Fine and Rein, and also Herb -- because he was thinking only of protecting Herb he was able to overcome his weakness. Hearing that from her cute Solo-sama, Herb does the usual (^^;;) Tio then comes running in -- he was moved by Solo's courage so he's going to train to be like him -- and he runs out... typical Tio...

The next morning Fine (dreaming of food) and Rein (dreaming of Bright-sama) are awakened by a ruckus out in the hall. Fine and Rein, along with Chiffon go to see what's going on. Girls are surrounding Solo, and of course Herb is there. She's made a fan club of sorts for her Solo-rin.. Solo-rin? (^^;;) Solo'd rather not be treated as a kid and called cute and such...

But he shouldn't complain that much since he's surrounded by cute girls (the "mob characters" in the show are all really, really cute). Well, Herb is a bit too much to handle, yeah. Crazy girl (^^;;) Anyways, nice to see the spotlight on Solo for the first time in Futago Hime. Nicely done, my man ;) We did also hear a bit more about Toma's situation and the reason he sees everything as a competition... wonder when we'll learn more about why he's a former prince and what's going on on the Walpurgis Planet...

Next time, the class goes on a field trip. Are we going to see any of the B class? Miruro, maybe? ;)

I'm surprised Herb didn't annoy me. She was crazy, but in a pretty cute way. :P Maybe it's just that I agree with her that Solo-rin is super cute!
