Kami-sama Kazoku 6

More than a bit late getting started with Kami-sama Kazoku, I know. I've actually read the first two volumes of the novels so I'll talk a bit about the differences. And I know what's going to happen so apologies if I tease too much ;)
Anyways, a rather shocking revelation from Tenko last time as y'all know -- she had a baby, and Samatarou would be papa. Samatarou is rather surprised as you'd expect.
Meanwhile, Meme goes to see Papa, who's away on business in heaven. She thanks him for making Tenko and Samatarou get along better, but he didn't do a thing. Though it looks like he's just fishing and relaxing, Papa is actually working -- he's fishing for people's wishes they wrote for 七夕 Tanabata (which would be on the 7th day of the 7th month). He catches one from someone that wished to be a rock star. When Meme tries to take a look at it, it flies away, going to the wrong place like one did yesterday (hint). Meme thinks she's being bad for coming and interrupting his work... no, she's being a very good girl for worrying so much about Tenko and Samatarou. Very cute, but the illustration in the novel is even cuter ;)

Back to Tenko and Samatarou... Tenko thinks she had a baby because Samatarou kissed her. She heard that after you kiss the stork comes with a baby in a basket and such... Yeah, she's not exactly a smart angel ;).. but there is actually a basket with a baby inside the closet. Inside is a piece of paper with "I wish we could meet again. Ai" and a photograph of a girl holding a doll. Tenko calls the baby girl Ai-chan@Tomoko Kaneda since that's what was written on that paper. Ai-chan suddenly talks -- she calls Samatarou "papa". He can't deny that she's cute after that ;)
At the hospital, Shin'ichi starts his attack on the wheelchair girl@Mamiko Noto (Noto kawaii yo Noto!). She doesn't care for him though and presses the nurse call button, saying she doesn't need any friends (hint), so he's got no choice but to run away and try again later...

At dinner that night, Tenko and Samatarou leave and take their food back upstairs, making Mama rather sad.. Mama, really, no more hadaka apron, please (^^;;) Anyways, Tenko and Samatarou go back upstairs to the room and feed Ai-chan, who can already eat solid food and even asks for seconds. After that, it's time to suck mama's... that freaks Samatarou out -- but Tenko just wants him to get some milk. When he opens the door, he hits Misa -- she saw it... great (^^;;) Because of Tenko's very bad sleeping habits, Ai-chan sleeps together with Samatarou...
..and when Samatarou wakes up the next morning, Ai-chan has grown into preschooler. He's very surprised at this development, letting out a scream that wakes up Tenko. Ai-chan says papa is scary ;) It wakes up Misa as well, and she walks to the room and sees Ai-chan... Ai-chan says that she wet the bed, by the way (^^;;)
While Tenko washes sheets, Meme comes in and sees Ai-chan. Of course, she's not surprised one bit. Ai-chan wants Meme to take a bath with her, so that's what they do. Actually, in the novel, she wants papa (that would be Samatarou, of course) to take a bath with her, and he ends up going along since she wouldn't take no for an answer. I guess that was NG for the anime ;)
Meanwhile, Misa tries to get an explanation of what's going on from Tenko and Samatarou, but there's more arguing than anything else. Mama wakes up and hears Ai-chan's voice coming from the bathroom.... if she finds out it's over (^^;;) Tenko and Samatarou try to think of a way to fool her -- Tenko says that she's hearing things (and that's it bad for your skin, too), which is good enough to make Mama go back to bed.

Back at the hospital, the wheelchair girl looks out the window as Shin'ichi comes to visit yet again, this time taking away her nurse call buzzer before she can use it. Why is she looking out the window? In her dreams, there's a demon that tells her to "come over here", but she can't go no matter what because she's waiting for someone (hint). The girl hits Shin'ichi with her wheelchair and calls the nurses, so he's got to come back to fight another day.
While Ai-chan's in the bathroom, she tells Samatarou (waiting outside), that she can only be here for five days. Someone in her dreams said that and told her not to forget it and to hurry up and do it (hint), whatever that might be (in the novel, Ai-chan tells this to Samatarou while they're in the bath together)... when she comes out Mama is right there and sees her. Mama, don't go around screaming 幼女 youjo all over the place. Makes you sound like one of the jikkyoumin (^^;;) Ai-chan goes up to Mama and calls her "obaa-chan". Mama isn't seeing things, Ai-chan really is there...
...so now with the little secret out what's going to happen? Everything that's happened this last couple of episodes -- Papa fishing for wishes and accidentally sending one to the wrong place, Ai-chan and the wheelchair girl's dream, that photo, Samatarou feeling that he's met the wheelchair girl somewhere -- will come together to give the answer to the question of who Ai-chan is, and also who the wheelchair girl is. You might be able to guess from the "demon" of the wheelchair girl's dream that's shown in the next episode preview. The answer is somewhat confusing, and a bit weird as well, but as we saw in episode 4 anything can happen when gods are involved ;)
This episode and the last were pretty faithful to the novel, though with some arranging of scenes and a just a few changes, so no complaints there. I did like this volume of the novel better than the first ;) I wish the animation were a bit better, but since this is Toei there's not a whole lot to be done about it. At least Tenko looks cute even when the character designs break down a bit. She's much, much too cute in this volume of the novel. Tenko >>>>> Kumiko for me, btw. And yes, Kumiko fans, she will be back once we get done with the material from the second volume.
Next time, Ai-chan continues to grow and grow. She pays a visit to Samatarou at school, wearing a school swimsuit. That scene is used as the prologue to the second volume even though it comes more than halfway through (you're even told to take a look back in case you forgot in the text at the time it's supposed to come), so it was a bit confusing there (^^;;)

I thought this was also a manga? Or is it both like Suzumiya Haruhi? I found the artists' and authors' websites. The artists' site is so cool xD;;;
Thanks God Samatarou never gave a goodnight or goodbye kiss in his mom. :p
Hinano: It's originally a novel series (like Haruhi), but it has been comicalized (made into a manga).
I've somehow mistakenly got the impression that Ai-chan turns out to be a boy later in the episode (because she looks so much like one in her pre-school version)... made me wonder who the extremely cute girl in the next-ep. preview was... baka na watashi... thanks for clearing up XD
