Sasami Mahou Shoujo Club 10

Tsukasa practices her broom flying technique -- well, just getting it to rise up -- at a playground as Anri, Sasami, Makoto, and Misao watch. Someone else is watching -- a little girl spies from behind a tree. She follows Tsukasa and the others as they leave the playground. The girl starts tossing rocks at them, so Tsukasa uses her magic right there in front of her to stop them... now the girl's even more interested. She walks up to Tsukasa, changes into a mahou shoujo-esque outfit, and asks Tsukasa to make her her apprentice, calling Tsukasa majo (witch). The girl's name is Asami-chan -- she holds Tsukasa's hand. Anri, of course, is not pleased with this development. Asami-chan calls her Anko, making her that much more pissed off.

They arrive at Asami-chan's house. She lives with her grandfather since her parents died... she's got lots of books about witches, and her favorite is one about witches and zombies. Witches I can understand, but zombies? She likes it because the witch waves her wand and makes the zombies come up from their graves... So why does Asami-chan want to use magic? Because she wants to wave a wand like the witch in the book and make her parents come back... 。゜・(ノД`)・゜・。 Sasami and the others don't know of any magic which can do that, but since magic so amazing it must be able to do that, too, and promise to help. Tsukasa is hesitant, though...

Of course, Washu doesn't know of any magic that would be able to bring back Asami-chan's parents. After school, Asami-chan is waiting for Sasami and the others at the gate, wanting to play. Anri gives Asami-chan a rather fast spin on one of those spinning jungle gym-type things, making her lose her rabbit. Asami-chan's parents gave her the rabbit, so it's very precious to her.

When they head back to Asami-chan's house, her grandfather seems to be packing. He says that it's been years since Asami-chan's been that happy, and thanks them... While having dinner with her father, Tsukasa asks him if he ever thought of wanting her mother back... He has, but thinking about something that can't come true like that only makes things rougher. For her mother's sake, he wants to make his time with Tsukasa right now precious.

As they prepare to leave school, Sasami and the others aren't sure what to do about Asami-chan. Well, Anri does know what she wants to do -- get rid of her. Of course, Asami-chan pops out of a locker right then, ready to play ;) But they can't play since they've got to go to the mahou shoujo club.

This time, they're practicing broom flying again, and they're actually doing pretty well. When they come out of the wardrobe, Daimon is busy cleaning up. Sasami finds an interesting mask and tries to put it on, but Daimon knocks it out of her hands... only because it's smelly (^^;;) Tsukasa finds a vial with some sort of potion in it. Daimon explains (with the help of some shoujo manga...) -- it's a memory potion. Pour it on something -- a stuffed animal given to a girl by her boyfriend, for example -- and it will show you the memories contained within. So they could use that on Asami-chan's rabbit! Tsukasa runs away...

..but Asami-chan is there at the school gate as usual. Sasami and the others run up, talking about finally having found a magic potion. Asami-chan thinks that means that they've found a way to bring back her parents, but that's not quite it... Tsukasa says that Asami-chan can't use the memory potion, though... That night, Tsukasa almost uses the memory potion on a photo of her mother, but she stops herself...

After school the next day, Sasami, Anri, Misao, and Makoto go over to Asami-chan's house. A moving van is there and is being loaded -- they're moving away. It's time for Asami-chan to say goodbye... crying, she waves goodbye from the moving van. She throws her rabbit to Anri and tells her to give it to Tsukasa... At the usual meeting place of the mahou shoujo club, Anri gives Tsukasa Asami-chan's rabbit. Washu tells her to try using the memory potion on it. But instead of seeing Asami-chan's mother, they see themselves. Memories are important -- but instead of thinking only about the past, Asami-chan treasured what's happening right now in the present just as much.

Tsukasa stands in front of Asami-chan's house that evening and says "I'm sorry". Washu walks up and tells her not to apologize, telling her that she did very well. Washu says she'll treat her to dinner :)

And Tsukasa-sama gains more points here with me. Might have thought she's a pretty quiet (and somewhat odd) girl, but she really has turned into quite a likeable character the past few episodes. And this time she learned quite an important lesson from Asami-chan, the same lesson that Aiko learned in the last episode of Magipoka, coincidentally -- don't hold on to the past, but treasure what's happening right now, just like a little kid like Asami-chan does. While the animation finally broke down and the balance was off here and there this time, the story was good enough to cover for it plenty for me. I'm pretty surprised it was able to hold up so well this far in. Anyways, y'all know the rule around here -- so long as it's cute it's okay... maybe a bit more attention could've been paid to making Asami-chan cuter, but no big problem ;) Hopefully it will be fixed on the DVD, though.

Next time, a mahou shoujo tournament in the witches' world is coming up so Sasami and the rest are going to have to work hard to win. Animation seems like it won't recover, but so long as everything else covers for it that's okay :)
