Fushigiboshi no Futago Hime Gyu! 17

No change to the OP this time even though Toma's no longer evil and no longer at the school, but anyways.
The prince in the painting, Edward, has to find a new "piece" to replace Toma to use to make sure peace never comes to the school... It's finally time for summer vacation so Fine and Rein are getting ready to go back home, packing a ton of stuff scattered all around their room to take back. If they're late the next train to the Fushigiboshi doesn't come for another week... The vice principal looks over grades -- they're down quite a bit, so he's rather mad at Ban Jo and Tanba Rin. He tells Yayan and Rarau to come up with a way to get grades back up, otherwise -- no summer break for them. Yayan stops in front of that mirror and Edward's eyes appear inside it. When Edward's eyes met his.... no, not that ;) Yayan is now under Edward's control...
The posessed Yayan goes on closed-circuit school TV and announces that there will be a test the next day -- those that don't pass will lose summer break. The vice principal is pleased with Yayan's idea, but Yayan wants even more power, the power to make the rules -- Yayan pulls out some rather embarassing photos of the vice principal and threatens to spread them around the school if he doesn't get his way. Ban Jo comes in to object, but the vice principal tells them to follow Yayan's directions...
Meanwhile, Fine and Rein start studying with Chiffon's help, but it looks pretty much hopeless for them. Bright and Shade come in, and soon Sophie and Altessa and Rosemary and Miruro (yay!) and many others come to help each other study. Everybody seems to be having fun, but it doesn't last for long as Yayan comes in and says helping others is prohibited -- he's the one making the rules now.

The students gather outside in their PE clothes to start Yayan's test. First up, competing to gather balls -- stealing from others is encouraged. Fine and Rein don't want to do something like that, but soon enough everybody's stealing balls and throwing balls at others... lunch is up next -- and it's some rather spicy curry. You can't take the heat, you lose points... Rarau's rather worried about Yayan, knowing he's not quite himself... Ban Jo and Tanba Rin go to the vice principal to complain about Yayan's test, but if those photos get out it's over for him...
The next test up is an obstacle course -- of course, no helping others. Fine and Rein help each other out, though, and the others start helping the people around them as well. Rarau tells Yayan that he's not acting normally, and the usual Yayan comes back a bit... Edward's finished with Yayan and leaves, his evil bats now flying over. Fine and Rein do the usual and get rid of the bats with ease... so, summer vacation for everybody, thankfully :)
Fine and Rein discuss what happened over a cup of tea. Why were those bats around? Was Yayan being controlled by something like Toma was? Hmmm... well, at least they've got summer vacation... oh... Fine and Rein forgot that they were supposed to be ready to leave on the train to the Fushigiboshi, and now they've missed it. They're stuck there for another week.
Typical Fine and Rein there ;) Now that Toma's gone, it looks like Edward is going to posess someone different every episode to try and carry out his evil plans. Yayan doesn't exactly strike me as the obvious first choice, but anyways.... it could get interesting (and perhaps amusing) depending on who is posessed. I don't really want Miruro to go evil, though, even if that means she'd get some more screen time ;)
Animation quality wasn't quite so good this week, but since this is a year-long series (and on Saturday mornings) it's expected and one of those things you have to deal with. Hopefully it'll recover a bit in not too long. Next time, it's time for some camping before the next train to the Fushigiboshi comes. Looks like it'll be an Altessa and Auler episode -- been a while since we've seen those two together ;)
