Monday Notes (September 24)...

Good Monday afternoon to everyone. Hopefully y'all are all feeling better than I am now. I'm still pretty much out of things for now and don't really have the energy to do much, but I would like to at least give an update on how I've been doing so y'all know I'm still around and all. Still haven't really regained my appetite, but I've finally gotten some sleep and such, I'm not quite as much on edge now, and now the doctors have put me on some stuff that should help some more, so hopefully I'll be feeling better soon.

Guess what came in yesterday? DVD 13 of Fushigiboshi no Futago Hime with a nice box -- still missing a few volumes so I'll have to get those whenever I get paid again -- and the first Fushigiboshi no Futago Hime Gyu! DVD. No pics since my camera is broken, has been broken for more than month, and it doesn't look like it'll be able to be replaced :( There was an insert in the Gyu DVD about a Fine/Rein version of the first ED, but.... new 2nd ending looks like it'll be Wonder 5 again, so we'll have to see how it turns out. I would think they'd change the OP, too, because they've got to put the new character in there (and it's odd to have evil Toma in there anyways).

Anyways, I am keeping up watching as best I can, so when I do feel like writing a bit more I'll probably do a really quick roundup of everything that's been going on and do my best to write something about the shows that have been ending over the past week and that will be ending this week, 'kay? Thank y'all for being patient with me :)

ADV Universe Download Service
ADV has started their own digital download service named ADV Universe, offering individual episodes (dub only) in Windows Media format for $4.99 an episode.... I believe I'll just buy the DVD at that price...

Matthew! So glad to hear you're feeling a bit better, and I hope things continue to improve more and more each day. :)

Regarding the ADV Universe Service:

Don't forget to mention the fact that their downloads are of the windows media player format and are heavily laced with DRM>. This means you can't (easily) shift the files to other players like PSPs. It also means you will only ever be able to play the file on 3 seperate computers. In that sense the file is more like a long-term rental than an actual purchase, because as soon as you get some new computers, it's gone.

It's the most pathetic marketing move I've ever seen an anime company engage in.

God, all these companies and their stupid DRM. With a price like $4.99 an episode AND Digital Rights restrictions, I don't see why I'd EVER buy from a digital download service like that. Think about it, people get new computers all the time thanks to technology changes, and then there's that chance of the HDD crashing. With that DRM, you'd lose access to the file in no time. Think we'd all be better off getting DVDs... At least they won't "expire" digitally and will play on all DVD players.
