Tuesday Notes (August 29)...

| | Comments (12)

Good morning to everybody. I'm not quite fully awake now since I stayed up and played Final Fantasy III DS after getting home from watching Farewell My Concubine for East Asian Cinema class (that we didn't finish since the professor only reserved the screening room at the library for 2 1/2 hours, not 3). Anybody else gotten FF3 DS yet? I'll post my friend code for it later on today, so those that have it send me some mail through Mognet and maybe something good'll happen ;)

Anyways, news, news...

Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS Details (via MOON PHASE)
nanohastrikers_megami.jpg

Details from the current Megami magazine. It will be set 6 years later (Nanoha, Fate, and Hayate are 3rd year middle school students), following what we saw at the end of Nanoha A's. It seems they already had the idea for StrikerS laid out before A's started, then started work on it after A's finished. There will be a good bit of battling, but it won't be quite as much a focus as it was in A's. The Lost Logia will once again be a key item, but details on exactly what roles Hayate, Nanoha, and Fate will have still haven't been released. Staff is the same as A's, so no worries there.

So, they did go with the 6 years later setting... as I said in my entry in the last episode of Nanoha A's, the character design for older Fate and Nanoha is rather bimyou -- read: not too cute. Hayate's okay, and I assume that Vita and the rest of Wolkenritter will be back as well, and there will certainly be new characters, so it's not like I wouldn't watch ;) I would've liked to have seen what happened in those six years, though... And one other thing... given how Nanoha and Fate's transformation sequences were in A's, it makes one wonder what the transformation will be like in this setting 6 years later (^^;;)

Updated 2:19PM: Some nice person uploaded the following photos of the article in Megami ;)

Friday Notes (August 25)...

| | Comments (0)

Thank goodness it's finally the weekend. Woke up at 4am this morning, couldn't go back to sleep, got to school a bit late (thanks to my dad being busy with eBay stuff), had to walk from Statistics to Joe Brown where my Korean class is -- about a 15 minute walk uphill, downhill, then uphill again. I'm not in shape after being lazy all summer long ... And then my mom's car breaks down while she's on her way to get me, I don't get home until 6:30 _| ̄|○

Anyways, I'm caught up watching stuff for the most part, so now I've got a backlog of stuff to blog here, but like I said, until I get adjusted to this schedule stuff'll get done when it gets done. It'd be helpful if I could make myself keep it short so I could do it quickly, but we'll see ;) Some news for now before I doze off here.

New Promo Trailers from TBS/BS-i

Asatte no Houkou (TBS Asatte no Houkou Site)
Animation: J.C. Staff
Watch here. Looking pretty good, so I'm looking forward to it. Also, Suara (Utawarerumono OP/ED) will be singing the OP/ED :)

Hidamari Sketch (TBS Hidamari Sketch Site)
Animation: Shaft
Watch here. Looks cute and seems like it could be fun. I should read the manga...

Yoakena (BS-i Yoakena Site)
Animation: Daume
Watch here.

And y'all have all probably seen the trailers and OP/ED for that other BS-i show, Kanon. I'll have something to say about that later ;)

Monday Notes (August 21)...

| | Comments (2)

It's Monday, and I certainly feel like it. Wish I could've learned that a professor for one of my classes teaches in a style I'm not very fond of before Drop/Add was over Friday, but oh well... I rather dislike being made to do silly skits that were thought up in 10 minutes in front of the class. I can understand what's going on in the story without that, thank you very much :P Hopefully we won't do this too often...

I'm not going to get home and be able to post/watch stuff until after 9pm tonight since the screening for my East Asian Cinema class starts at 6:30pm at the library. We're watching Zhang Limou's Raise the Red Lantern this week, next week is Chen Kaige's Farewell My Concubine. The Japanese films we'll be watching are Tokyo Story, Rashomon, Kagemusha, An Actor's Revenge, and Tampopo... Anyways, I'll do stuff when I can do stuff, that's all I can say with my schedule now ;)

TBS Anime Festa 2006 (via MOON PHASE and others on Hatena)

The TBS Anime Festa was held this past weekend, giving those who attended a chance to see the first episodes of some upcoming Fall shows.

Kanon
The usual KyoAni quality, so very good reviews as expected. The heroines' seiyuu are unchanged from the Toei version as previously reported, but Yuuichi's seiyuu has been changed to Tomokazu Sugita. I'll probably end up hearing him as Kyon ;)

Asatte no Houkou (TBS Asatte no Houkou Site)
Even with some changes right from the start, it sounds like it's successfully captured the atmosphere of the manga. Only two volumes of the manga are out now, so it'll have to go original to finish things up. Looking forward to it.

Yoake mae yori ruriiro na (Yoakena for short)
Not familiar with the game by August at all.... but I'll probably end up checking it out anyways.

Wintergarden (Digi Charat Official Website, MOON PHASE)
There was one surprise -- a new Digi Charat anime titled Wintergarden, made by the staff of Snow Fairy Sugar -- but it's not your usual Digi Charat at all. It's set 10 years after the previous series, and most surprising, it's not a comedy, it's one of those bittersweet love stories, so no "nyo" for Dejiko or anything like that. Different from the norm for Digi Charat to say the least, but it could be interesting, I suppose. It's only planned for 2 episodes as of now.

Rozen Maiden oubertüre (as given on the site, but ouvertüre would seem to be the correct spelling) (TBS Rozen Maiden Site)
The OP for the Rozen Maiden special set to air this winter was shown, with ALI PROJECT doing the song, of course. Seems like it'll be focusing on Suigintou, so the Gin-chan fans out there should be happy.

And that's the news for now. I see in the poll that Shana Zero no Tsukaima is running away with it by a wide margin. I'm not surprised by that one bit (I might have voted for it myself). Poll closes on Wednesday so y'all vote for your favorite summer show of the ones I'm watching if you haven't already. I'll try to think of a better question next time ;)

TGIF! (August 18)....

| | Comments (1)

It's the usual slow Friday here, but things have picked up a bit since school is back in session. Hopefully the new storage system -- used to be FTP and shell access (ssh), now it's changed to this "MyDrive" thing accessable through SFTP, WebDAV, and a web interface -- we've moved to in the past week won't cause too many issues (^^;;)

Day didn't get started too well for me here -- got here later than usual, then had to wait a while to get on a bus since three (three!) Orbit buses came by full, and I mean full, packed, no more room for even one more person, so I ended up missing Korean class _| ̄|○ Classes yesterday went fine. Asian Culture sounds like it'll be interesting, and East Asian Cinema should be the same. Only catch with the cinema class is that the films aren't shown during class hours, they're shown Monday nights from 6:30-9:00pm at the library. So, either I rent them and watch them by myself, or stay at school all day long on Mondays. Can't drop the class since there aren't any other classes I could take that would go towards my major... oh well.... one of the things we'll be doing in that cinema class is a group project about a certain genre of film. Detective, big monster (like Godzilla), so on. And animation is one of the topics that she listed, so I'd BETTER be in the group that does that -- could finally give my lecture on the central themes of mahou shoujo... probably not ;) I'm hoping I don't get in a group that does anything too weird.....

Anyways, some random stuff for now.

Sasami Mahou Shoujo Site Renewal
Pretty much the same content, but now in fancy flash for the second season.

Utawarerumono Radio
I'd read on the blogs that it was pretty funny (and popular enough to bring down Onsen's servers) since Ryouka Yuzuki (Eruru) was pretty crazy during it... and that she is, she's completely out of control -- calling guests "nuisances" and generally being mean to them, messing around with co-host Rikiya Koyama (Hakuoro), so on. During last week's broadcast (number 6), while Daisuke Kirii (Oboro) was on:

(after Riki-chan brings out a paper Hakuoro mask and puts it on. There's a photo of him wearing it on the page now)
Yuzu-chan: "Moeeeeeeeeee! Choumoeeeeeeeee! It's Hakuoro-san's mask.. it's so cool... haaa... it makes my heart race.... Look at me, Look at me.. look at me! [lots of heavy "haahaa" breathing] Ha, Hakuoro-san! Hakuro-san! Haa, haa, haaaaaaaaaaa!"
Kirii: "...okay for me to leave now?"

....no comment (^^;;) If I had that clip I'd put it here for y'all to listen to, but this laptop doesn't seem to be able to record the audio output like my old one... Anyways, if you want to listen to this week's episode, go to Onsen's site (it's one of the Friday programs). No annoying guests this time, so Yuzu-chan was quite excited to be alone with Hakuoro-san (^^;;)

August 16, 2006

And it's back to school at the University of Georgia today. I hate riding the Orbit bus in the afternoon, packed in like sardines and holding on for dear life with one hand.. Anyways, I'm so glad I don't have any 8am classes this semester :) Classes today went fine and I should like both of them. Forgotten a good bit of what I learned in Korean last semester, though (^^;;) Have two more classes Tuesday/Thursday -- Asian Culture and Asian Cinema -- hopefully those'll be interesting. The professor for Asian Cinema is Korean, so I suppose we'll be watching mostly Korean films, but hopefully there'll be some Japanese stuff as well.

As I mentioned, I spent Monday night (until 1:30am or so) over a friends' place and we watched a good bit of stuff since we hadn't been able to get together in a while. Here's what we watched:

Zero no Tsukaima 1-2: Seemed to like it
Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu 1-6: Liked it a lot, though I had to explain that the episodes weren't in order: "This is episode 7. Last time was episode 2 -- episode 3 is next time". One friend asked, "Is Haruhi crazy?", after she stole the computer from the Computer Club -- yup, that she is ;)
Coyote Ragtime Show 1-2: Robotic goth-loli girls with big guns to fulfill the action need for the night. The girl of the group recognized that Franca's seiyuu is the same as Sora@Kaleido Star (Ryou Hirohashi).
Ouran High School Host Club 1-6: For the lady in the group. She liked it, so did one of the guys (the other was asleep by this time).

Got a request to watch more Rozen Maiden next time we get together. Still need to finish the first season of Kaleido Star, too...

Anyways, got caught up watching things last night, I'll see what I can get done to catch up blogging here tonight. Hope y'all don't mind me being a few days slow here ;)

Friday Notes (August 11)...

Good Friday morning to everybody. At work a bit early today, so the blogging for what I posted last night will have to wait 'til I get home ;) Anyways, some news that y'all will like first.

Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha 3rd Season (via MOON PHASE, Puzzlize Nikki, Nanatsukidou)
nanohaseason3.jpg
キタ━━━━(゚∀゚)━━━━ッ!!
It's on the Nanoha website now :)

Instead of the rumored OVA we get a new season. Coming in 2007, the title for this season is Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS as you can see from the photo above of a clear file that was being given at the Nanoha booth at Comiket -- appropriate title considering. Now, the question is what setting will they use? Are they going to use older Nanoha, Fate, and Hayate that we saw at the end of A's? I'd prefer maybe 2 or 3 years down the line instead of 6, but we'll see. Anyways, I'm happy :)

Hidamari Sketch Site Open
Story summary and 4-koma manga up. I've read good reviews of the Hidamari Sketch manga, so I'd like to read it before the anime starts... see how much books this semester cost and we'll see if I can buy manga.. got to pay off my new laptop, too (^^;;)

Fall WOWOW Lineup (via MOON PHASE)
Sasami Mahou Shoujo Club Season 2 - October 5 (Thursday) at 18:00
Mamoru-kun ni Megami no Shukufuku wo - October 5 (Thursday) at 24:00
Soukou no Strain will likely take The Third's timeslot.

More Negima!? (via Neko to Negima! to Seiyuu-san)
A couple more scans about Negima!? from recent magazines for y'all here:
negima_newtype.jpg

negima2anime.jpg

More scans of stuff here.

Sounds like cards and battling will be prominent in Negima!?, fitting for its afternoon timeslot. The cards (check the background of the second scan) are a bit different than the Pactio cards in the manga, and there are multiple cards for each character. The cards with SD characters are apparently called "Friendship Cards".

Looking at all the information out recently, it looks like they're going to go mostly original for Negima?!. If so it's rather disappointing, but I'll try and watch it as something different from the manga and hope SHAFT can bring us something entertaining as they did with Paniponi :) Anyways, to really do justice to the manga you'd need to go 52+ episodes..... btw, volume 15 (included with DVD digest of the Spring OVA) is out next week (though some shops are apparently selling it now) and the full Spring OVA will be out October 25.

Monday Notes (August 7)...

| | Comments (6)

7:42PM - I'm thinking it's about time to change the site theme again since it's been this way since April. Probably going to stick with Futago Hime, but with a change of colors more appropriate for the upcoming season. If there are any artists out there that can draw cute stuff that would be interested in doing a banner send an e-mail my way.

...and now I should probably get to work here writing things. Sorry about that (^^;;)

And it's the last week of summer before classes at UGA get started up again next Wednesday. Where did all the time go? (^^;)

A bit of news from today and over the weekend for now.

Otakon Licenses (via ANN)
ADV did good picking up Utawarerumono, outside of changing the title to "Shadow Warrior Chronicles".... really, just leave the title as Utawarerumono, please (^^;;) Funimation picked up both seasons of School Rumble... not much of note other than those two. Kadokawa Shoten had a panel where a representative mentioned that they are in talks with various companies about licensing Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu, and that it should be released next year. If I had to choose, I'd hope Geneon would pick it up since they're usually quick about things. Keep all the extras, and please, please encode it at a high bitrate and put it on a dual layer DVD9. Hopefully someone will pick up the novels as well since the Haruhi anime is heavily slanted towards those who've already read the novels.

Negima!? Dated (via MOON PHASE)
Starts October 4th at 17:30, and a serialization of it by Takuya Fujima is slated to start in Comic Bonbon.... 17:30, not late night? The first season could've run at that time since there was next to no service or pantsu so it's not surprising, I suppose, but still... the serialization in Bonbon would seem to indicate it will be targeted towards a younger audience as well. Just have to wait and see how it turns out...

Idolmaster Anime - Idolmaster XENOGLOSSIA (via MOON PHASE)
idolmaster_anime.jpg
The game where you, as producer, make a girl into the most popular idol there is.... will be made into an anime by the Mai-HiME people at Sunrise? Yeah, there'll be robots. Dunno about live events ;) Director is Tatsuyuki Nagai (Honey & Clover II), series composition by Jukki Hanada (Rozen Maiden series).

Tuesday Notes (August 1)...

And it's yet another hot and humid summer day here. Really, enough already (^^;;) The air conditioning at home is FINALLY fixed after being broken for a month, so at least I didn't sweat all night long. Anyways, new Dell laptop came in yesterday afternoon so I spent the rest of the day (and night) getting rid of the preinstalled stuff, moving files from old laptop to new, then installing programs. Fun, fun :P Think I've got most of that finished now so I'll be able to get to work catching up this week :) As for the laptop itself... getting used to it. Touchpad is smaller than the HP, ports and drives are on the opposite side compared to the HP, volume controls and such are on the front, so on.. but I like it. Pretty speedy compared to the old one :) I'll put up a photo when I get home.

A bit of news for now

Kanon Date Set (BS-i Kanon Site)
Everybody, mark your calendars for October 5 (Thursday) at 25:00. Ugu~ ;)

Asatte no Houkou Site Updates
Staff, cast, character, and story updated among other things. Karada's (yes, that's really her name) older brother, Hiro, will be played by Satoshi Hino (Yuuji@Shakugan no Shana, Saito@Zero no Tsukaima). No specific dates yet, but it's slated to start on TBS in the fall.
