Season 1 Finished!

| | Comments (0)

So, with episode 35 we're at the end of season 1 of CCS. The larger story hasn't quite come to light yet, but things will pick up by the end of season 2 (and I'm going to have to start using the extended entry so I won't spoil things for y'all, lol). Episode 34 also marked the end of the "Kero-chan ni Omakase" segment at the end of each episode, so no more explanations of the kawaii battle costumes that Tomoyo makes for Sakura :( Anyways...

Favorite Episodes:
Now I love all the CCS episodes, but if I had to pick my favorites from season 1...

6 - Sakura and Memories of Her Mother
12 - Sakura's Never-Ending Day: Poor Sakura. She had to take that recorder test so many times and wear that Fairy getup ;)
16 - Sakura and the Rainbow of Memories: No Clow Card action, just a touching story.
17 - Sakura's Scary Test of Courage: Any episode where Yamazaki tells a big lie is great, and two big lies is even better!
23 - Sakura, Tomoyo, and a Wonderful Song - I'm a music major so of course I like the episodes where Tomoyo gets to sing ;)
25 - Two Sakuras: I love the episodes where Mirror Sakura shows up. It really gives Touya some time to shine :)
27 - Sakura and the Shrine of Memories

Anyone else care to share their favorite moments from season 1? That's what the comments are for ;)

Favorite Battle Costumes:
If I had to pick...

8 - Sakura's Rival Appears!: The neko costume is my favorite! Just as Tomoyo says, "Because it's cute" ;)

12 - Sakura's Never-Ending Day: Fairy costume was also very kawaii :)

Favorite Yamazaki Lie:
17 - Sakura's Scary Test of Courage
Gotta be the beach volleyball lie. People used to play beach volleyball with coconuts, you know? That one was great :) Chiharu didn't seem to like it too much, though..

Now I've got to think about how I'm going to blog the 1st movie, which I'll be watching tomorrow. Hmmm... Anyways, I'll start season 2 on Monday.

It felt kinda odd to watch a Christmas episode when it's 90 degress outside, lol. But there's nothing like watching CCS to feel a bit better in the opressive heat ;) Anyways... wrapping up the first season (a few days late).

Sakura's having that dream about Tokyo Tower more and more and remembering it more clearly. Looks like Mizuki-sensei might be involved in some way with it... but that's for next season.

Right now, Sakura's having a problem deciding what to get Yukito-san for Christmas (also his birthday), so she asks Meilin for advice and comes up with something. Sakura got some tickets to the amusement park that Chiharu and Yamazaki got for winning the contest last episode, so she invites Yukito to go with her. hanyaaan~ ;)

At the amusement park they run into Meilin and Li.. and also Touya, working another one of his odd jobs. However, the toughest Clow Card yet, FIREY appears and Sakura has to seal it away before it burns the place down! Somehow, she manages to use both the WINDY and WATERY cards to stop it and seal it away. FIREY's one of the basic elemental Clow Cards, so Kero regains some of his power and provides some sparklies to make this Christmas a great one for Sakura-chan :)

#29 - Sakura's Sweet Cooking

I'm going to let one of my good friends, Laura, write a bit about this episode since she was nice enough to watch it with me :) (btw, this is her first time watching CCS). Take it away! ;)

Hi! Okay, for a short show this was very cute... but I do not think I could have watched much more of it. It'd be like eating too much sugar in one sitting. This would be cute for little kids but I'm not a little kid anymore. I'm all grown up! ;)
And very... interesting animation. I think their eyes are too big. Okay, I don't have anything else to write now so bye!!

Arigatou, Laura-chan! If you watch a few more episodes you'll get used to how kawaii it is, trust me ;) Anyways...

At school, Sakura, Melin, Li, and Shaoran's class is learning how to bake cakes. Sakura and Li both try their best since they want Yukito-san (hanyaaan~~!) to eat the cake they made. And Meilin wants to make a wedding cake. How sweet! ;) However, there's a problem. The cakes are too sweet. Could it be the work of a Clow Card? Of course it is. The culprit is the SWEET card. Sakura and Shaoran work together to capture it during class and she seals it away. Everyone's cakes come out great after that. I felt sorry for Li, though.. he didn't get to give Yukito-san any of the cake he made. awwww...

We learn a lot more about that mysterious teacher, Mizuki Kaho, that appeared last episode and her relation to Sakura's brother, Touya this time. Seems there's another card at the Tsukimine Shrine so Kero and Sakura and Li go to investigate. But they can't find it no matter how hard they search, so Kero goes off to buy some drinks and Sakura and Li get to have some quality time together talking about Mizuki sensei -- even though Li says to be careful around her, Sakura feels all "hanyaan" when Mizuki-sensei's around.. just like when she's with Yukito.. Ooops... it's out. So Sakura and Li talk about how they first met Yukito.. it was hitomebore, love at first sight, for both of them. Awwww ;)

But the Clow Card that they were searching for suddenly appears and take Sakura away.. to the past when Touya (in middle school) and Kaho met. It's the work of the RETURN card. Getting back to the past, Touya and Kaho's relationship got more involved but, a year later Kaho went overseas to study. But she says that they'll meet again, which did come true. Sakura is pulled back into the present by Li using the TIME card and she seals RETURN away. She gives Li a hug as thanks for saving her (see last screencap)... thank goodness Meilin wasn't there. That would've been scary ;)

Anyways, guess who was watching everything the whole time? Mizuki-sensei. She's definitely not your ordinary math teacher. I remember when I first watched CCS I was with Li about Mizuki, didn't really trust her at all. But we'll see if that stays the case.

#25 - Two Sakuras

Sakura is having yet another good day when Yukito-san (hanyaan~!) is over. However, another person that looks exactly like Sakura is causing trouble. Sakura and her friends talk about it, with Naoko helpfully pointing out that it's said that everyone has a twin out there. And if you meet them you die (hoeeeee~!).

Sakura and Kero talk about it a bit and, of course, it's a clow card. Doing some fortune-telling using the Clow Cards, Sakura figures out the nature of the card and who it's after -- her brother, Touya. The other Sakura, saying that she's looking for something, leads Touya into the woods and he falls off the edge of a cliff, hurting his leg. Even though he's hurt he still offers to help the other Sakura. He knew all along that she wasn't really Sakura. Li, Sakura, and Kero finally come to capture the card, but none of the usual methods work. Sakura has to say the name of the card. Sakura realizes that it's MIRROR and seals it away.

Hmmm... Maybe Touya's got some powers we haven't quite seen all of yet. He's been keeping an eye on Kero-chan an awful lot. Has he figured it out? We'll come back to this later on ;)

A new character is introduced this time, the terror that is Li Meilin. Well, a terror this episode to Shaoran and Sakura this time ;) She's a relative of Shaoran's... and his fiancee. So she's not too happy to see other girls around and is determined not to lose to Sakura in any way (see screencaps). The first thought I had when I first watched CCS and saw her in episode 19 saying "Nihao!" was of Shampoo from Ranma 1/2.

The clow card this time is FIGHT, who's been beating up on Judo and Karate experts in Penguin Park. Meilin shows up to fight it with her pretty good moves, but it isn't quite enough, and she gets a scolding from Shaoran for running off by herself. Sakura figures out how to defeat FIGHT using the POWER card and seals it away. Meilin ain't happy that she lost this time ;)

Meilin is a character made just for the anime. Suppose they wanted to liven up the competition a bit ;) She's not in the manga at all so it's a big change, but I think that it works out pretty well in the end.

A day late (due to a Kaleido Star marathon), but without further delay, here's another one of my favorites ;) Sakura's class is at the beach for classes this time and she's excited about it. While Sakura and the rest are playing volleyball Yamazaki shows up to tell a lie (any episode where Yamazaki tells a good lie is great). Did you know that long ago they used to play beach volleyball in Hawaii with coconuts? Sakura believes all of it as usual ;) After that, Chiharu, Yamazaki's girlfriend, drags him off and gives him a bit of punishment. Those two are an interesting couple ;)

The next day the class is going to have a test of courage in a cave near the beach and Naoko-chan has a little story to tell Sakura and the rest. A very scary story about a very similar class that went through a test of courage. Sakura doesn't like scary stuff so she can't sleep and goes outside, where she's just about scared to death by Li-kun ("HOEEEEEEEE!"). The two of them have a little talk on the beach about stuff. In the manga, they talk about Mizuki-sensei (not yet introduced in the anime) and also when they fell in love with Yukito-san ;)

The night of the test of courage comes, but as Tomoyo and Sakura go further into the cave, something's not right. The other students are all gone, just like in the story Naoko told, and Tomoyo disappears soon after. Li comes running to Sakura, who's crying. Li comforts her and calms her down enough so that she realizes that a Clow Card is nearby. It's ERASE, and Sakura captures it, of course.

The next day no one remembers what happened at all since ERASE erased their memories as well. Sakura thanks Li for his help, though he doesn't really accept it, and then... it's Yamazaki again with another lie. Did you know that in ancient Egypt when they played volleyball they believed that whoever didn't drop the ball got their romantic wish granted? Sakura and Li both fall for it. Yukito-san! ;)

A bit different than the usual this time. No capturing clow cards, no outrageous (but very cute) costumes from Tomoyo. Just a nice touching story :) Sakura and the family plus Yukito go to a summer house for vacation and there Sakura visits the house of a very nice old man.

small spoilers ahead!

The culture festival is going on at Touya and Yukito's high school so Tomoyo and Sakura are there to enjoy it (and Tomoyo to film Sakura enjoying it, of course). Li is there, too, surprise, surprise, where Yukito is working. He ain't too happy when Sakura shows up to take away Yukito's attention ;) After Yukito wins stuffed animals for everybody it's time for the play that Touya's class is putting on. It's Cinderella. But with some gender-bending, as Touya is Cinderella and doesn't look like he wants to be one bit (no wonder he wouldn't tell Sakura about it). And Yukito is the fairy godmother, but with a mackerel can on his head. A very odd play... of course, a clow card shows up to make some trouble. It's the MIST card, and it destroys the balcony that Touya and the girl playing the prince are standing on. Sakura thinks of a way to seal the card using SHADOW, and as the balcony falls Li uses some magic to save Touya.

After the play, the girl that played the prince confesses (that's kokuhaku in Japanese) to Touya but he says he already has someone he likes..hmmm, wonder who that could be? ;) After that it's a big bonfire and some dancing to Turkey in the Straw, and Sakura gets to dance with Yukito, much to Li's dislike ;) Even so, Li and Sakura seem to be getting along a bit better now. Pretty fun episode to watch ;)

Another one of my favorites this time (a couple of days late, I know). Sakura has the Groundhog Day experience this time, but she doesn't quite figure out why she's repeating the same day a few times until Li (who's the only other person that realizes what's going on) helps her out a bit. Poor Sakura had to do her recorder test so many times ;) btw, the song they're playing on the recorder is the same one that Tomoyo sings, "Yoru no Uta" ("Song of the Night"). And poor Kero kept losing his save in the RPG he was playing on something that looks quite like a SNES. He's got good taste in gaming ;)

Sakura, Kero, and Tomoyo go to capture TIME in the school's clock tower, but they have some problems. Poor Sakura (again) had to wear that embarassing yousei (fairy) costume over and over again ;) When Li comes Sakura comes up with a plan to capture TIME... but Li gets the card in the end. Uh oh ;)

And here's the battle costume for this time. kawaii :)
