The anime is in a bit different order than the manga here. The manga from which episode 10 of the anime is taken occurs before this story in the manga. The major difference in this episode is that they don't show the scene from the manga of Terada-sensei giving Rika a ring.

Things get a bit more interesting with the introduction of a new character, Li Shaoran. He's from Hong Kong and is also searching for the Clow Cards. And he wants the cards that Sakura has already gathered. Touya shows up to stop him, but before they fight Yukito shows up and Li gets quite red for the first of many times to come ;)

As Sakura and Tomoyo are going back from school a storm comes up and a beam of lightning leaps around the park. When Sakura gets home the storm comes up again so Sakura, Tomoyo, and Kero go to see what's up. And who happens to be there but Li. Sakura doesn't know what to do so Li tells her what card to use and she captures THUNDER. Afterwards, Li tells Sakura that there's no way she can get all the cards back. Not a very nice guy, is he? He and Kero don't get along very well at all, either.

And here's the battle costume for this time. One of my favorites, I guess you could say :) A very kawaii cat outfit made from a rubber material so that it doesn't conduct electricity. But why a cat? Because it's cute, Tomoyo says. Of course ;)

This time it's one of my favorites from the first season. Naoko saw a ghost (Naoko loves ghost stories) while she was walking in the woods and tells Sakura and the rest about it, so of course, they've got to go investigate. Sakura is not looking forward to it to say the least. Turns out there is a ghost, but everyone sees something different and Sakura sees.. her mother who died when she was just 3 years old.

The ghost might be a clow card so Sakura and Kero and Tomoyo go back to find it. Sakura sees her mother again at the edge of the cliff there and walks over the edge, but somehow her fall is slowed, and Yukito is there to catch her and takes her back to his house to recover a bit.

Even after all that, Sakura tries again to find out the truth. Turns out it is a clow card, ILLUSION, and she captures it (of course). And there's a nice surprise at the end of the episode involving Touya :)

In the manga: A different setting yet again. The ghost appears in the lake at Penguin Park. And Tomoyo sees King Penguin instead of a nikuman ;) They also see the ghost again during a festival at the park, so Sakura, Tomoyo, and Kero go to investigate. Instead of the bunny costume Sakura is wearing the costume she wears in episode 7 of the anime. She also gets a new cell phone from Tomoyo to use. Sakura dives into the lake using WATERY to make a bubble, but stays there too long and almost drowns. When she wakes up she's at Yukito's house. Volume one of the manga ends with this story.

Sakura's goes on a field trip to the aquarium and she's excited! And she gets even more excited becaue she gets to go on a "date" with Yukito-san! (well, she thinks of it as a date) So we hear one of Sakura's two favorite expressions: hanyaaaan. Whenever she's feeling all dreamy about Yukito she says that :) The other one is hoe (not "hoe", "ho-eh"). Many uses for that one that I might get around to defining in another entry later ;) But the date doesn't go quite as planned. The WATERY card interrupts them at the aquarium. After that, Sakura comes up with a plan to capture it.

Sakura's brother Touya shows up a couple of times working odd jobs. He'll be doing that a lot as the show goes on :)

In the manga: The action takes place at Sakura's school instead of the aquarium. WATERY has been almost drowning kids as they're swimming in the pool. Sakura still gets the idea for capturing WATERY from Yukito, though :)

As the title says, this time we learn more about Sakura's best friend, Tomoyo. She brings some very interesting video to show to Sakura at school. Looks like Sakura's little secret is out ;) Kero explains the whole thing to Tomoyo, who is positively overjoyed (how many times did she say "Subarashii desu wa!" or "Suteki desu wa!" this episode?) about Sakura being a mahou shoujo. And she's going to tape every single bit of it. Nice bit of self-deprecating humor there when Tomoyo talked about the qualities of the magical girl :) (Gotta have a finishing pose, gotta have magic spells, etc.)

The next day when Sakura arrives at school it's a mess. It's the work of a clow card that only moves at night, so Sakura, Kero, and Tomoyo all go to the school that night (much to Sakura's delight. Are all magical girls afraid of ghosts?). Tomoyo's prepared. She's got a van full of very kawaii costumes for Sakura to do her Cardcaptor thing in :) The card is SHADOW, and with Tomoyo's help Sakura captures it.

After the ending a short sequence called Kero-chan ni o-makase! ("Leave it to Kero!") begins where Kero talks about various things in CCS. This time it's the "Battle Costume" that Sakura wore this time. Ain't it kawaii? ;)

Opening (Catch You Catch Me): Very catchy opening song and the animation to go with it is, of course, very kawaii. CHANSU! Gotta sing along with this one :)
Ending (Groovy!): Nice song, but the animation is pretty plain.

Let's get started! The usual for a first episode, more complete summary and such :)

We start off in a dream sequence in front of Tokyo Tower. Don't really know what's going on yet, but this dream'll show up later (as they always do). Our protagonist is Kinomoto Sakura, 10 years old, 4th grade student at Tomoeda Elementary School. Likes PE and music, hates math. She lives with her older brother, Touya (who likes to tease her), and her loving father Fujitaka. Her mom passed away when she was young.

Sakura goes with her brother on the way to school so she can meet Touya's friend, Yukito (Yukito-san!). Talk about a crush on somebody.. At school, we're introduced to Sakura's (somewhat odd) best friend, Tomoyo, who loves to do nothing more than videotape and take pictures of Sakura. And constantly talk about how kawaii she is :)

When Sakura goes home after school she hears something in her dad's study, so she goes to investigate and finds a book, "The Clow". She takes a look inside and pulls out a card and reads the name on it, WINDY. A strong wind comes up and blows the other cards away, scattering them all over the city. Soon after, a strange stuffed-animal like thing comes out of the book. He's Keroberos, the guardian of the clow cards (Kero-chan for short). He tells Sakura that she must collect all the cards or else a catastrophe will befall the world. The cards were made by a powerful magician named Clow Reed, each living and having a special power. Kero gives Sakura the "key" (that turns into a cute staff) and makes her a Cardcaptor, one who will collect all of the cards and bring them back where they belong.

A strong wind blows outside and Kero notices that it's one of the Clow Cards, FLY. It's time for Cardcaptor Sakura! ;) Sakura and Kero go out to capture the card and through some nice moves on her rollerblades Sakura uses WINDY to capture FLY. FLY does just what it says, as Sakura finds out :)

So that's episode one. We're just getting started!

In the manga: Lots of differences right off the bat. Sakura is already doing the Cardcaptor thing and we see her capture the JUMP card first (it's on tape thanks to Tomoyo). How she got to be a Cardcaptor is explained in a flashback. She also gets FLY in a different way. She sees that it's injured in a dream and uses WOODY to capture it. Quite a bit different, ne? And that will continue. I should mention that some episodes in the anime are NOT in the manga, and I'll point those out :)
