Albere, the son of a noble Parisian family, along with his friend Franz have arrived at a city on the surface of the moon, Luna, for a carnival. They go to an opera house, and there they see a strange man throw flowers down to the performer on stage. He's the Count of Monte Cristo... After the show Albere finds a pocket watch belonging to that man and tries to give it to him as he leaves.. on his CG spaceship. This is Gonzo, after all...

Later on, Arbel and Franz receive an invitation from the Count and go to eat with him and talk about things. Then he offers them an invitation to the carnival's big event the next day.. a public execution. There, the Count wants Arbel and Franz to play a little game with him to determine who gets the one letter of pardon he has. Frantz refuses, but Albere goes along and the man who murdered 10 people ends up being pardoned. Franz and Albere fight afterwards and go their separate ways.

A woman Albere had seen earlier, Peppo sees him by himself and talks to him a bit.. and then as the city grows dark Albere thinks he's going to get some.. but Peppo pulls a gun on him..

It might not be a great idea for me to write a lot about this since I haven't read The Count of Monte Cristo or seen the movie and whatnot.. but anyways :) Gankutsuou is very stylish as you can see by the screencaps. Of course, this being a Gonzo production, there is some CG that need not be CG in here.. the CG does look nice, though... But what is it with all these English songs these days? Opening and Ending are both in English... I didn't really like either all that much.. but the music in the show was fine.

Anyways, it was interesting, so I'll keep on watching.
