Hikari is still troubled by what her true purpose is. Meanwhile, Mari has finally mustered up enough courage to confess her feelings to Takeru, but... when she goes to do that... Hikari and Takeru are about to kiss and she loses it. Completely loses it and gives Hikari a nice hard slap. Not a good idea... because... Hikari breaks down, thinking she's hurt someone and...
It's time for Evil Hikari. One of the ED attacks Hikari and she totally destroys it right in front of Takeru. He has no idea what's going on. Jennifer is there to explain it all to him (dang my lack of scientific vocabulary! I only learned "zetsumetsu", "extinction" because it was in the first episode, lol). Akari and Ryou come running to stop Hikari (last episode Akari tried to convince Hikari to stop and not destroy everything), but it seems it's too late. Remember that butterfly in the title logo? Well, they're all over the sky now (those red things in the screencaps). Takeru tells Hikari that he loves her but she calls him a liar. He ends up transforming and...
Well, we'll see next week :) The drama has certainly been turned up quite a bit. In a reversal from earlier, the opening seems to feel right in place.. with the appearance of the butterflies this episode it makes more sense.
サヨナラとささやく 醜き世界に
Sayonara to sasayaku minikuki sekai ni
Whisper "goodbye" to this ugly world
紅く紅いその羽で全てを飾って
Akaku akai sono hane de subete wo kazatte
Adorning everything with those wings of brilliant red
That pretty much describes what happened... The ending is a bit too cheerful for now after that last scene in this episode. Kinda ruins the mood.. can't be avoided, I guess.
Edited 5/27 2:17PM: Check out Stripey and Jeff for more detailed impressions than I could offer here. I think this week I'll watch it raw as usual, but delay blogging (or keep it short without screencaps) until the subbed version is out and y'all have seen it... And maybe to double-check my Japanese as well ;)

Finally! The larger story is starting to come to light a bit :) Hikari learns about the meaning of death this time... and she also realizes why she's on the Earth in the first place. That's about all I'll say for now.. on here. For a bit more read the extended entry.

Umi, umi, umi, umi! Yes, for those that like it you get your service again :) The whole gang goes to the beach and sets up a cafe there. There's much talk of kissing and such between the two couples there, and Mari ain't pleased about the possibility of Takeru kissing Hikari. Takeru gets up enough courage to give a kiss after being prodded but... guess who? It's evil Hikari. Doesn't Takeru realize that she's changed?... Evil Hikari asks Takeru what he wants to do with her. Ooh...
But a giant sea serpent jumps out of the ocean and is after Hikari. So, same as episode 1, Takeru transforms and proceeds to kick much butt and seems to get a bit carried away with it. Akari yells for him to stop.. afterwards a small green thing floats out of the monster as it lies on the sea floor. What could that be? Then it starts snowing (in the middle of summer!). Odd.. Ryou says that that thing is okay so Akari's happy. Hmmmm...
Maybe we'll get an answer to that next time. Takeru and Hikari go to a festival. Fun :)

It's summer and that means a trip to the mountains with the whole gang. Most of this episode is devoted to building Hikari and Takeru's relationship, it seems. Nothing really happens, though... it is the required 温泉 onsen episode so plenty of service for y'all that like it (so I'm guessing that Momotato will like this episode a lot ;).
Story really needs to get movin' since we're at the halfway point. From the next ep preview it looks like next time ("Prelude To A Kiss") will be more exciting.

Hikari goes to school! But it's not quite what she expected... and there's something hidden in the school, also. Seems like the "dark" Hikari senses it and tells it to awaken. And it destroys the school when it comes out. Didn't mean to, though :) I didn't really catch what its name was. It sounded like "Iron" something-or-other.. Anyways, Hikari doesn't remember what she did at all, just like before. From the ending (they replaced the normal ending animation this ep), it seems like the "dark" Hikari might be coming back again in a big way soon. Looks like we'll get back to fighting again next ep, too.
I should mention that there wasn't really any fanservice this time. Jennifer-sensei did show up, though, drunk as usual. Even gave the robot thing a drink. Anyways, looks like things will be picking up so I'm looking forward to what'll happen next :) No theories about who's an alien or not from me like Stripey has come up with, though ;)

As expected, Ryou brings Akari home and causes a fuss. Ryou's little sister, Kimi, doesn't much like the idea of Akari staying with them, calling Ryou bokeaniki ("stupid brother", something like that) more than a few times. Ryou and Kimi's parents both died, so the two of them live by themselves.
Eventually, Ryou brings Akari over to Takeru's house and they have another group discussion about Hikari and Akari. Jennifer shows up then (know some of y'all are happy to hear that) to talk about the two also. Who are they?, why did they come here?, etc.. They're something like sisters, even though they have no idea who the other is. Looks like they'll get along fine :) Kimi finally agrees to let Akari live with her and Ryou, and be a part of their family.
And yup, those of you that like it do get your fanservice this time. It's a bit more than previous episodes, but not too much, I think. (But it would nice to have an episode without it so I could take an episode to school to watch on my Axim)
The character development in Konomini is going pretty quickly (as other bloggers have said), but the overall story is still not quite in motion yet. Still have no idea about all that stuff that happened back in episode 1. But I expect things to pick up in the next few episodes as all the major characters have been introduced now, I think.

Time to meet the other girl, Akari. Ryou has apparently been visiting her after school and talking to her. She lives in the forest where she fell, has a little bed set up in a tree, and has that weird brown-colored thing (you've seen it in the ending hanging up next to the teru-teru bouzu), Kuon, bring her some fruits and such from a field. It almost got caught, though, making for the bit of light fun in this episode :) Anyways, Ryou is pretty sweet to Akari, wants her to see more things and meet more people and not be alone.. so I'm guessing next episode he'll bring her home with him, causing another fuss like when Takeru brought Hikari home ;)
There wasn't too much fanservice this time, and it wasn't too much. Good :)... As far as story, I still have no idea about what happened in the first episode, though. I'd like some kinda explanation soon, you know..

Hmmm... they didn't keep the same exposition at the beginning. This time it was a summary of what happened last time. Anyways... Takeru has brought Hikari back home with him, causing a bit of a fuss as Takeru tries to explain to his friends who she is. But we don't really learn a whole lot more than we knew before. Hikari doesn't know where she came from, she just knows it was dark and lonely... and that she likes Takeru since he reached out to her and was the first person she met :) Hence the title for this episode, あなたが初めて anata ga hajimete, "You're The First".
A new character is introduced, Jennifer Portman, an American scientist who's investigating the site where Hikari and Takeru fought that thing. She ends up staying in the same place as Takeru and Hikari... and she likes to drink. She does give a bit of advice to both Mari and Hikari so she seems to be pretty nice :)
There's also a bit of a flashback back to when Takeru was a child. It seems that his mother left him, so he understands a bit of that loneliness Hikari had to go through. That's really about it.. There was some fanservice, as could be expected, but it wasn't too much, I think. Looks like we'll be introduced to the other girl, Akari, next time.
So download and watch it already! I'm sure most of y'all are probably doing that :) Leave your comments about the first episode on this post... I should really be getting to bed now...
