KURAU Phantom Memory 12

| | Comments (0)

KURAU Phantom Memory will not be airing on TV Asahi next Thursday, 9/23. Also, starting in October, it will air on Wednesday instead of Thursday.

Kurau, Christmas, and their father escape to a facility where some people that were injured in an accident at a Rynax energy plant on the moon are. Kurau's father developed Rynax energy so he might be able to help.. A woman there, Midori, is covered in that shining Rynax and can't move, and her fiance blames Kurau's father for the accident. However, Kurau cures some of the other patients so there might be hope for her.

While there, Kurau and her father talk for the first time in quite a while. Kurau wants to give the real Kurau back to her father.. but she doesn't want to because Christmas will be all alone. And as her tsui that's probably the worst thing that could happen. Her father wants the real Kurau back... but also wants Kurau as she is now. And he's also regretting that he developed Rynax energy and the system that was used against Kurau by the GPO..

Doug was captured by the GPO and Ayaka questions him, but he's not talking. And the question comes up again: Why exactly is the GPO after Kurau and the Rynax? Ayaka says that they have a dangerous power... but that couldn't be the only reason, could it?

Kurau tries to cure Midori, but it's too little too late and she vanishes right in front of her fiance's eyes. And on top of that, the GPO has come so Kurau and Christmas have to run away again and are separated from their father...

Updated 9/13 11:45AM: Corrected the episode count. Ooops ;) Took a look at the story page on the site (and saw up to 14) and not the DVD listing (23 episodes).

Kurau was able to escape from the clutches of Ayaka and the GPO last time, but they took Christmas to the moon, where Kurau's father is at. Kurau and Doug have a plan to rescue Christmas, but Kurau doesn't follow Doug's order to wait and goes on ahead and infiltrates the place where Christmas is being kept. And she runs into some trouble there, as Ayaka is right there on her trail, but Kurau kicks some soldier butt, and with some help from Doug she eventually finds Christmas... but, she's trapped, and her father and the man who was with Ayaka talk to her. The man asks Kurau and Christmas to stay there and says that they won't be mistreated, but Kurau's father tells them to run away, and run away they do. Doug once again comes to the rescue and takes Kurau, Christmas, and Kurau's father away.

We're about halfway through the show now (set for 24 episodes. Thank you for correcting me). It's been good so far so I hope the last half will be just as interesting. Bones has done a nice job :)

Kurau and Christmas have gotten away from Ayaka and the GPO for now to another town where Kurau has some friends. She's worried about what's going to happen since she used her powers in front of a lot of people...

Meanwhile, Doug meets up with Ayaka, who he used to work with at the GPO, and speaks of rumors of this superhuman person who can fly (Kurau of course). Ayaka doesn't feel like fooling with him, however..

Kurau and Christmas get a new place, but she's called to do some work again since one of the Agents there, Sam, got captured by a gang while on assignment. Kurau goes to rescue Sam, and things go good, too good.. As her and Sam try to run away they're attacked, but Kurau doesn't have much of a problem getting rid of their attackers... but she's more tired than usual and while her guard's down she's cornered by one of them, but she glows with her Rynax power and disables the machine he's riding in.. but something doesn't quite seem right with Kurau now as she goes back home to Christmas... I wonder what happened to her? It looks liked some of her Rynax energy or whatever got released somehow..

Per request, I'll be blogging a few more episodes of KURAU for y'all. I might miss some things here and there (would be less if I'd bother to look things up), but I think I'm okay for the most part :)

Kurau is asked to do another job and refuses at first, but then after Christmas assures her that she'll be okay alone, Kurau accepts. The job this time is to stop a spaceship that's spinning out of control and on a collision course with a station.

However, someone is observing Kurau's apartment. Might remember him from the first episode as Kurau's partner, Doug, but now he's doing other work. His son says that he's GPO but I'm not sure that's the case. He breaks into Kurau's apartment when Christmas is off shopping and puts something in there, but she comes back right as he leaves, but she doesn't really think much of it for now.

Kurau goes to space, and using her Rynax powers safely stops the ship and rescues the pilot. Kurau returns home and asks Christmas if anything odd happened. She mentions the guy that came earlier, and Kurau immediately uses her powers to check for anything strange. The guy planted a bug in the picture of Kurau and her parents, so she gets rid of it. However, something more dangerous is about to happen.. The GPO people ("men in black", you might say) are ready to go after Kurau now. One of the GPO agents, Ayaka, along with a something like a SWAT squad, goes to Kurau's apartment. Kurau and Christmas manage to make a getaway and fly off...

We'll see what happens to them next time :) I'm still interested in finding out what happens, and what exactly the GPO want to do with Kurau, and why Doug is doing surveillance on Kurau. And of course there's questions about the Rynax and what's become of the actual Kurau. Many questions, few answers yet ;)

KURAU Phantom Memory 2

Opening: "Natsukashii umi" ("umi" is written as "uchuu"): A nice opening song and sequence showing off both Kurau and Christmas.
Ending: "moonlight": Just a slow zoom out from a scene with Kurau. Song fits well with the show, though.

The other Rynax finally appears and Kurau is overjoyed. But first, she's got to think of a name for her.. something good.. how about Christmas? That's definitely a good thing ;) However, unlike Kurau, Christmas doesn't have any of the Rynax powers...

Now that Christmas is with her, Kurau doesn't want to take on dangerous jobs as an Agent. She takes a job of protecting a man who's about to be married again from his previous girlfriend (supposedly). However, that's not quite the case as Kurau finds a bomb disguised as lipstick that the bride to be was carrying since she didn't really want to marry that guy.. Kurau, using those awesome Rynax powers, gets rid of the bomb easily...

Back to Kurau's father, the professor now.. he's visited by someone who has some info on Kurau. They've been observing Kurau and apparently she's not on their list.. What do they want from her?

Kurau herself wants to see her father again, but they parted so that neither would be hurt. During one of the experiments Kurau was made to participate in she got angry and her power caused her father's left arm to disentigrate... the episode ends with a nice scene with Kurau taking Christmas on a little flight around the town..

I'm interested so I'll keep watching. Looks like we might have a good show here :) As Jeff mentioned, the music is done very well. And overall, the show does a nice job of capturing your attention. I certainly couldn't look away during this episode or the last :) Anyways, from now on I'll go lighter on the summaries, more thoughts and such.

KURAU Phantom Memory is the newest show from BONES. So let's get started already!

The year is 2100AD, on the moon. Kurau, 12 years old, lives with her father, a professor. Her birthday's tomorrow and she's not too happy that he won't take her anywhere... but he offers to take her to see an experiment that he's doing so she's happy now. What he's doing is an atomic collision experiment.. but something goes wrong, and two beams of light come out of the collision chamber and hit Kurau, making her disappear. But then she's back... but it's not exactly Kurau. She's glowing.. says that she's a Rynax (using the spelling on the show's site. In Japanese, it's RINAKUSU). Kurau's father doesn't know what's going on and asks the Rynax to give Kurau back, but she says she doesn't know a way. More importantly, she has to protect the other Rynax in Kurau's body, calling it tsui (meaning "pair"). The Rynax has some amazing super-human powers.. she also does have all of Kurau's memories, but Kurau's father has trouble accepting it for a while....

10 years later, 2110AD, Earth.

Kurau's working as an "Agent" now. She's been asked to retrieve some data that's been stolen. Her superhuman powers come in handy when she, along with her partner, go to get the data back, as she goes though doors, and fights a robot that shows up with not much trouble at all... However... she's been waiting for someone for the 10 years she's been here. She's lonely... then someone appears as she's sleeping, glowing.. Is it the other Rynax?

Interesting enough for a first episode. I'll keep watching and see if it keeps my interest :) For more information, see the official site at http://www.kurau.net/.
