Being a magical girl is tough, ain't it? After sealing her fifth Jewel Seed Nanoha decides to take a little break and goes with Suzuka and Arisa to cheer on the soccer team that her father coaches. Afterwards, at Midoriya (the shop that Nanoha's parents run), as Nanoha sits with Suzuka and Arisa (and as they have fun with Yuno) a boy on the soccer team passes by with a girl.. he's holding a Jewel Seed. Nanoha senses it, but thinks that it's just her imagination. So Suzuka and Arisa go on and Nanoha goes back home to rest. Yuno had a very dangerous moment there ;)
The boy gives the Jewel Seed to the girl and as she takes it, it activates. Nanoha senses it and goes off to investigate.. this time we get the full transformation sequence, btw... but huge trees have already covered the city... she doesn't know what to do. Yuno says to look for the source, and using Raging Heart's search feature (that's useful to have) finds it. And then Raging Heart changes into a ranged weapon and Nanoha seals the Jewel Seed...
But none of this would've happened if she had realized that the boy had that Jewel Seed and done something right then. She says it's her first failure as a magical girl... and she resolves to never let that happen again.
So we've gotten our episode dealing with our magical girl's first "failure", as Nanoha calls it over with. Still quite fun to watch, though not as happy, 'cept for Yuno's close one ;) But I'm really looking forward to next time. One word: "Yay!". It's about time Nanoha's rival showed up ;)
Hopefully, all of you out there will be able to start watching Nanoha soon.

It's Nanoha's first fight as a magical girl. That staff she has is called Raging Heart.. and it talks!.. in English (kinda that Star Trek-ish computer voice). With a bit of help from Yuno she manages to seal away the monster. The monster leaves one of the Jewel Seeds behind.. and also a big mess.
Nanoha takes Yuno home and the whole family meets him.. her mother especially likes him since he's so cute :) The next day at school, Yuno tells Nanoha a bit more about the Jewel Seeds and why he's there. The 21 Jewel Seeds were scattered around Nanoha's town in an accident that Yuno takes blame for, so he has to gather them and return them to the place they belong.
Whle walking back from school, both Nanoha and Yuno sense the presence of another Jewel Seed at a shrine and go to investigate. This time, it's a mean dog monster.. and Nanoha forgot how to activate Raging Heart. Ooops ;) But, for some reason it activates automatically and protects her and she changes into her magical girl outfit.. with no transformation sequence this time, I might add (awww, no fun). She pretty easily takes care of the monster, seals it, and retrieves the Jewel Seed.
And so ends Nanoha's first day as a magical girl. Not the most exciting stuff, but hey, it's cute and that's enough to cheer me up a bit after the Bulldogs lost the football game today :) There also wasn't any of that seemingly 3d-ish animation this time like last.. Like Momotato, I'd like to see Nanoha's rival, Fate (Mizuki Nana's character), show up soon. And I wonder when Nanoha will find out that Yuno is really a boy. Doesn't look like it'll happen next time, but Yuno's not going to take advantage of that, it seems ;) Many guys would be very envious of his position (as Mizuhashi Kaori, Yuno's seiyuu, said when talking about her character in an interview).
"innocent starter", the opening song, and the animation to go with it is pretty much my favorite opening of all the shows I've watched so far. That has nothing to do with my bias towards mahou shoujo, nope, nothing to do at all, btw ;) Anyways, looking forward to next time!

Opening: "innocent starter" by Mizuki Nana - Song is wonderful :) And it's not your usual chou-genki mahou shoujo opening. Very good.
Ending: "little wish ~lyrical step~" by Tamura Yukari - Cute song. Not very much going on in the animation department, though.
So here we go with my most anticipated new show, Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha :)
A dark forest... a boy is injured and a monster is coming towards him. He uses a strange jewel to repel the monster and it runs away. He falls onto the ground.. then changes into a ferret?
But was that just a dream? It's time for Takamachi Nanoha (9 years old) to get up.. do all magical girls have problems getting up in the morning? ;) Nanoha goes downstairs and we're introduced to her parents and her older brother and sister. They all seem to get along quite well :)
On the bus to school Nanoha meets her friends, Arisa and Suzuka. Suzuka really, really reminds me of Tomoyo from CCS for some reason. Maybe it's the way she talks? In class they're doing a project to interview people that work at various places around town to get an idea of what they want to do in the future.. but Nanoha doesn't really know what she wants to do, doesn't really have anything special she can do. But Arisa gets her in shape quickly with the ever-popular mouth stretch ;) Nanoha and the rest walk back from school (On the way back from school is when Arisa has that hilarious "BE QUIET!!" line that some of y'all might have seen from the clip on Momotato's page) Nanoha hears a boy's voice. The same one that was in her dream... and then she finds a ferret lying in the path along with a jewel. It's hurt..
So Nanoha, Arisa, and Suzuka take the ferret to be looked at. It's not hurt too badly, but it's a rather strange kind of ferret. Looks like it likes Nanoha :) So she wants to keep it now and asks her family at dinner. The animation style changed here in this scene... But anyways, when Nanoha goes back to her room she hears that boy's voice again, telling her to come to where he is. So she runs off, and there's the ferret... and a monster's attacking it. The ferret jumps into her arms and thanks her for coming. It can talk!? It tells her to use the magic of the jewel to defeat the monster. Nanoha chants a spell and the power of the jewel is released. Then the ferret tells her to think of a form to protect herself.. And here we go with the transformation sequence! Takes about a minute. It was pretty cool :) Nanoha is pretty surprised, of course.
And that's where the first episode ends. I have to say I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Just what a mahou shoujo fan like myself needs ;) It's cute, though not sugary sweet, and Nanoha is pretty likeable. Does seem like typical mahou shoujo though I do feel a bit of a difference. Besides the sudden shift in animation style that one time the animation was okay. Same goes for music. And the voice talent for Nanoha is so good I would watch it for that alone :) So I'm looking forward to next time!
