Hanon, how could you!!! I can't believe she cheated on Tarou-chan!Anyways, that's the only screencap you need for this episode. After getting friendly she finally made her move on Nagisa. I like the pairing, I guess ;)

Today's episode looks to be back to the usual angsty Luchia and Mikaru stuff. Oh well... I'm happy so long as there's a Hanon episode every now and then :)

  
Opening "Rainbow Notes" by Kanbe Miyuki: Sounds just like you'd expect something with "rainbow" in the title ("Rainbow Road" from the various Mario Karts comes to mind). I rather like it :)

  
Ending "Sekai de ichiban hayaku asa ga kuru basho": Rather long title, ne? Luchia, Hanon, and Rina sing this one together. Much better than the 1st ending.

Skipping ahead a few episodes here... A more complete summary since this one is only available raw :)

A young girl named Auri has come to see Taki-san and learn to be a fortune teller. Well, not really.. just because it's supposed to be popular ;) Anyways, Taki gives Auri some tasks to do. First is to predict the weather for the next day. Auri predicts rain.... but it's sunny. So why not try a rain dance? Gaito-sama's useless minions Yuri and Eriru show up and dance with Auri and it does rain. Finished with that task.

Next is to gather some ingredients for a potion... So Auri sells some "magical" trinkets on the beach to people.. Yuri and Eriru show up again, this time with Yuri buying a necklace that will grant her love wish.. maybe. So who does Yuri like? Hippo. Actually, she likes Hippo's human form (that was back in episode 25, which I don't have, grrr... but did read the episode summary on the show's site). Using the money she earned Auri goes and gets the ingredients.

And last, Taki tells Auri to find a black pearl on an island. She can't take Luchia, Hanon, or Rina with her but she can take Hippo with her. And who should show up but... Yuri and Eriru again. Auri, being the manipulative kid she is, tells Yuri and Eriru that the black pearl she's searching for will grant your love wish (again) so Yuri and Eriru get to work.. Hippo's changed into human form now and Yuri realizes that he's around.. so she runs off to find him and jumps all over him. Awwww :)

Meanwhile, Luchia, Hanon, and Rina have come to see how Auri's doing and after that on the way back they run into the Black Beauty Sisters. Who always are in some kinda yuri-ish pose whenever they show up.... anyways.. they sing a song (in minor) and Luchia and the rest can't do anything... Back on the island Auri finally found the black pearl and puts it in the potion and... BOOM!! The explosion blocks out the Black Beauty Sisters' song so Luchia and the rest go to work as usual. And that's that :)

Rather fun episode to watch. Hippo and Yuri are sooo cute together ;) The next first season episode I have is.. 50, though. See if I can find some more somewhere... The next episode of Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch Pure looks like it'll have Yuri and Hippo together again so I might write up something about that one ;)

Luchia and the rests' teacher at school is on maternity leave so Hanon fervently prays (with candles on her head?) that her dear Tarou-chan will be the substitute. And he is, so Hanon's overjoyed and wants to throw a welcoming party for him. What a mess that girl is. Falling for the music teacher of all people (...I am a music education major, just btw, lol). Hanon still cracks me up ;) As for Tarou... long ago he saw a mermaid. A sad, crying mermaid that he can't forget, so he wrote a song about her. As he's playing the song on his piano, he sees a mermaid outside. Could it be that same mermaid?

Tarou's still got that on his mind as the party goes on. There's also a girl there that somewhat looks like that mermaid... Hanon (somewhat jealous) finally drags him away to start the barbeque but still.. when that girl leaves he follows her. She is a mermaid since she's carrying a pearl, but she's not the same one that Tarou saw. Just then, one of Gaito's minions, Maria, shows up to cause some trouble. Luchia and the rest seem to have taken care of her, but she uses her ice power to attack, then a warm light comes and melts the ice.. from Kaito? It's pretty clear now that he's not your ordinary surfer guy. He's related to Gaito-sama somehow (no surprise given the resemblence). Gaito's also got this mysterious looking woman by his side.. we can't see her face so we don't really know who she is... but I have an idea.

Just a note - the next episode (23) is the last subbed one. I've got a few random raw episodes from the rest of the first season, but I probably won't be able to write anything about them without spoiling things for y'all. Same with the current Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch Pure episodes. So this'll probably be it for the blogging for now (unless somebody wants me to keep doing it).

It's the required rinkai gakkou episode this time. So Luchia and the rest are off to the beach for a bit, though Luchia, Hanon, and Lina can't touch the water since they'd transform back into mermaids. Despite that, Hanon went off and bought a new swimsuit to ahem.. "seduce" her Tarou-chan. Hanon really gives me a good laugh sometimes. I suppose she's my favorite of the three for now.

Anyways, there's talk of a treasure on that island, a Wishing Ring that will grant any one wish you desire, so a couple of Gaito's minions have gone to the island, too. Luchia searches for the treasure along with Hippo (the penguin), but Hippo falls down a hole, and Luchia gets lost and trapped. Kaito goes to look for her and finds her, but at the same time as the two demons are in the cave, so he's caught in their spell and falls asleep. Luchia and the others go to take care of business as usual, and though the demons have something to capture the mermaids' voices it doesn't work very well they're driven away again.

And as it turns out, Luchia ends up getting the time alone with Kaito that she wanted. Awwww :) I'm hooked for now, despite the fact that they use the same song over and over most of the time, and that I don't really like Luchia's singing voice sometimes (I skip the ending now).. I prefer Lina's ;) But anyways, really, I am having some fun with this show.

Hanon moves in with Luchia to keep an eye on her and a new transfer student comes to school, Lina. She's your serious and quiet but cool type. Seems she's got a problem with Kaito, though, and confronts him at school. Looks like she has him confused with the evil Kaito-sama since they do look a lot alike. Luchia happens to see them talking from a distance and it seems like they're kissing so she gets all worried about it, but can't ask Kaito directly about it. But she sure can ask.. no, demand that someone else do what she won't like any good shoujo heroine ;)

A famous American singer is at the hotel where Luchia works and lives and she's going through the same problems as Luchia, so Luchia calls for a taxi and off they go to fix things. Time for Kaito-sama's two henchmen to make some trouble, as they think that the pearl that Jennifer's wearing is one of the mermaid princesses'. Hanon and Luchia sing a duet.. same song.. bye bad gals for now. Jennifer and boyfriend get things straightened out so Luchia decides to do it herself now.

I find myself enjoying this show more than I did Pretty Cure or Tokyo Mew Mew for now. Enoyable enough and it's pretty kawaii, too :) Just wish they'd have a different song to sing sometime soon...

So I guess Kaito hasn't quite completely made the connection yet.. You know that bad thing that will happen if Luchia confesses to a human? She'll turn into bubbles.. not good. Anyways, getting to the larger story at hand...

Seems some strange things have been going on in the sea recently, so that's why Hanon was there as well. So Luchia and Hanon have to call on the goddess of the sea to bring things back to normal.

Back to school.. Kaito invites Luchia out for a d-a-t-e. Luchia, being the mahou shoujo heroine she is, is just a wee bit excited. Hanon, however, is not, and explains the "turn into bubbles" thing (and says to not go out with "lowly human males" or something like that. shitsurei na!) to Luchia, who still insists she's going on the date. Hanon ends up following Luchia around when she goes to meet Kaito for the date and guess what? Hanon doesn't even follow her own advice, going all hanyaaan (CCS expression, lol) over this guy that gave her a little fish ;) Kaito takes Luchia to that place he promised to show her. It's where he heard this song. the song that Luchia sang as a mermaid. Luchia wants to say something and tries to sing, but just can't do it.. Awwwww, poor thing...

Soon after, the bad guy.. gal for the week shows up and takes Hanon. Luchia goes to help, but her song doesn't work.. since the bad gal has something over her ears... Hanon takes it off and joins Luchia for a duet. Same song as last time... bad gal's gone for now. Back to Kaito-sama's dark lair... wonder if there's some kinda connection between the evil Kaito-sama and Kaito..

In the end, Luchia (in mermaid form) sings that song while Kaito watches from the shore. Kaito confesses and Luchia says she feels the same way.. but without saying it... she gives him a kiss and says to search for her. Poor Kaito... but he'll find her eventually, of course, ne? :)

Well, it's enjoyable enough so far to keep watching :) I've got up to episode 12 queued in eMule so I guess I will watch it anyways, lol. Be a while, though... so long as that penguin doesn't get too annoying I'll be happy ;) Next time.. 3rd member of the team.

Opening: "Taiyou no Rakuen ~Promised Land~" - Sung by Kanbe Miyuki. Nothing all that great. Animation's a mix of the stock henshin footage and some other stuff showing off the 3 leading ladies and Kaito.
Ending: "Daiji na Takarabako" - Sung by Nakata Asumi, Luchia's seiyuu. Not the greatest song either. At least there's kinda some stuff going on with the animation.

Special request blog :) ADV announced they had licensed Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch a few weeks ago so I've decided to watch a few episodes and see how it is. 1st episode blog, little bit longer than usual, so on, so forth... fitting that me, a music major, would be watching a show with such a musical name, ne? ;)

Luchia, Mermaid Princess of the North Pacific Ocean, has gone to the human world along with our talking penguin mascot, Hippo (what an odd name for a penguin), and a couple of others to search for a very important pearl that she lost. Well, "lost" isn't exactly the right word for it. A few years ago as she was watching fireworks near a boat on the surface, a huge wave came up and a boy on the boat fell off. She rescued him and brought him to shore, but he still wouldn't wake up. So she used her pearl to revive him. He was her first love. Awwww :)

Back to the present day.. Luchia walks along the beach and sees a very cool guy surfing. You can probably guess who that guy is, ne? Luchia thinks that might be the case, but doesn't say that much about it as the guy -- Kaito -- invites her to see him in a surfing competition.

At school, the gossip is going around about how close she is to Kaito. Another girl in her class, Hanon, offers to help her out a bit so they go shopping for a while, but Luchia has to return to help out at the hotel she's working at.

The day of the surfing competition comes and as Kaito is impressing Luchia and Hanon (and the crowd) with his moves he falls off and doesn't come back up. The weather suddenly changes so Luchia runs into the ocean (changing into mermaid form. She changes back whenever she touches the ocean) to see what's going on. Our bad guy.. bad gal of the week has Kaito and wants the pearl he has.. the pearl that Luchia saved him with. Kaito wakes back up and realizes who Luchia is and gives her the pearl.. henshin time! Though relatively short for a transformation sequence I have to say ;) So what's Luchia's special power? The pearl changed into a microphone so it's the power of song. She sings... not the greatest song... and drives the bad guy away for now and takes Kaito back to shore. So Luchia and Kaito are finally reunited.. however.. apparently, something bad will happen if Luchia confesses to a human. What could that be? And btw... Hanon is a mermaid princess, too, since she has a pearl.

Okay, summary done. Anybody interested now? ;) Seems like it will be your stereotypical mahou shoujo, monster-of-the-week show. Nothing stands out as extraordinary right now, but we'll see... I've watched a few episodes of the 2nd season of the show and it hasn't really been all that different. Some character interaction, then bad guy shows up, transform, sing the same song, bad guy runs away, that's it. But at this point, I can watch it without being too annoyed ;).. It's kind of backwards from the usual "I've got to keep my secret magical identity secret" problem that shows up in mahou shoujo since Kaito already knows Luchia is a mermaid. I guess... If he's made the connection... Maybe... And those two are already hugging and such. We're off to a fast start, aren't we?

Anyways, I'll probably blog a few more episodes, and more if requested :) If anyone else out there has watched any Mermaid Melody please comment, okay?
