March 26, 2006Been a while since I've done one of these, hasn't it? Since I can't really think of a theme this time I'll teach y'all some randomly selected expressions that might be of use impressing your otaku friends.
これなんてエロゲ？/それなんてエロゲ？ KNEG?/SNEG?
Kore nante eroge?/Sore nante eroge?
"What ero game is this/that?"
Used to describe a situation that could easily be in any stereotypical ero game. As you can probably guess, KNEG? and SNEG? would be the abbreviated versions of the phrase.
Usage

Meganekko (girl that wears glasses) + iincho (class rep) + osananajimi (childhood friend) + staying together overnight. KNEG?

A set phrase originating from a 2ch thread that's gotten rather popular recently among Japanese bloggers. For some reason it makes whatever you say a bit funnier ;)

Sorry gals, but the expressions I'll be introducing this time are (probably) mostly useful for the guys out there ;) As promised (more than a few days ago), this time I'll talk about some expressions that would be useful when talking about images like this one. I won't go into all the slang words for 乳 chichi breasts here, though -- if you want to learn those I'd suggest listening to a little song called "Chichi wo Moge" from Konjiki no Gash Bell! ;)
巨乳 kyonyuu
Starting with the biggest here, 巨 kyo means "giant" or "large". If you want an extreme gravity-defying example of kyonyuu, take a look at the girls in Eiken (^^;;)
普通 futsuu
Just average. No special terms or anything.
貧乳 hinnyuu／微乳 bi'nyuu
貧 hin has the meaning of "poor" (you might remember it from 貧乏 binbou), so when used here we're talking about girls who are somewhat lacking. 微乳 binyuu is an equivalent expression (微 bi meaning "small" or "delicate" in this case). You would think "bigger is better", but this category is extremely popular these days. Sakura from Da Capo would be a good example of a hinnyuu.
つるぺた／ツルペタ tsurupeta/ぺたんこ／ペタンコ petanko
The combination of つるつる tsurutsuru (smooth) skin and a ぺた peta (flat) chest would characterize your typical ツルペタ tsurupeta (you'll see it written in both Katakana and Hiragana). You can probably guess that petanko would have a similar meaning. If you went around reading Japanese blogs about Futago Hime the past couple of weeks you would see either of these words used more than a few times to describe Leonne.
You'll often see these terms along with a 万歳／バンザイ／ばんざい banzai or マンセー mansee (from a Korean word, 만 세, having the same meaning) to show a preference for a preferred type (as in hinnyuu banzai! or something), so give a it try if you want in the comments for this entry ;)
Added: tenbra-san reminded me of a word I forgot to include here, 美乳 bi'nyuu. Y'all should recognize the first kanji to be the 美 bi of 美少女 bishoujo, so you can probably guess the meaning -- no matter what the size, if you think they're good you can use bi'nyuu ;)
This time, a few more expressions you can use to say how かわいい kawaii (cute) something is ;) For the examples this time I'll be using a few of the shows I've been watching but not blogging recently. btw, I should mention that you'll see kawaii written in hiragana かわいい, katakana カワイイ, and kanji 可愛い, so if you're writing in Japanese use whichever you want.
可奈ちゃん超かわいい！
Kana-chan choukawaii
超 chou is a prefix roughly equivalent to "super", so "super cute!". And that would be my thoughts about Kana in episode 3 of Canvas 2. Sakura Elis is pretty cute as well... yet another "onii-chan" type (and cousin), and... she reminds me of a certain character from a certain other series ;)
New shows can give us some new ways of saying kawaii, be it by using something from the title -- 極上にかわいい gokujou ni kawaii from 極上生徒会 Gokujou Seitokai -- or during the show itself. I'm sure most of y'all are familiar with the version used in Paniponi Dash! ;)

Despite what might others might say, I find Shana extremely cute. And she was at her cutest in episode 3 while eating her favorite food, melon pan :)
This week we cover probably the most used (and abused) expression on this blog.
○○かわいいよ○○
This was first used by Sanma Akayashiya during a certain program when he couldn't remember Asami Kimura's (of the idol group "Country Girls") name. He said that since he only remembered her as "That cute girl" he couldn't remember her name. He then repeatedly said 「あさみかわいいよあさみ」 "Asami kawaii yo Asami".
Soon after, it came into usage among fans of Mamiko Noto (能登麻美子) as 「能登かわいいよ能登」 "Noto kawaii yo Noto" and also among people on the net in general whenever they find someone extremely cute.
Usage

美玖かわいいよ美玖
Miku kawaii yo Miku
Not that hard to use, right? So I'll expect to see some of you other bloggers using it, preferrably in a big red font ;) Next time, we'll go over some other ways of saying something is cute.
Those of you who are relatively new, or even not so new, to the anime blogging community might not understand some of the various expressions that I use so I've started this series of entries to introduce some popular phrases/words in use among Japanese bloggers. Every week (at least that's the plan) I'll have a new expression so y'all go out and try using it yourself if you get the chance :)
This week's expression:
テラ- (tera-)
As you might have guessed, テラ tera is the metric prefix indicating 10^12 (1,000,000,000,000). Among bloggers (and elsewhere on the internet) it is used as a prefix with various adjectives to indicate that you're feeling so much of whatever that only tera can describe it.
Examples
アルテッサとソフィーはいいコンビｗｗｗ ﾃﾗﾜﾛｽｗｗｗｗ
Arutessa to Sofii wa ii konbiwww terawarosuwwww (Altessa and Sophie make a good combo...)
ワロス warosu is the 2ch equivalent of 笑う warau, to laugh. The "w"s (for warau) appended are yet another indication of laughing. After seeing Sophie piss off Altessa so much by being such an airhead I laughed that much ;)
アリステラモエス！！
Arisu teramoesu!
As you could probably guess, モエス moesu is the equivalent of 萌え moe (y'all remember what that means, right?). (*´Д`) is often used with in conjuction with this expression. In my case, I feel moe towards Alice from DCSS so I could've used this expression in my entry on the most recent episode. Jagi-san used it to describe Madoka-chan from that episode. Y'all could probably guess what other characters I would use this expression with ;)
The two examples above are the most common uses of テラ tera, but other adjectives such as カワイス kawaisu (from 可愛い kawaii), カワイソス (from 可哀想 kawaisou), and others could probably be used.
